I'm looking a driving Sydney to Alice Springs return. As I have a conference in the Alice 14-17 Oct. and this way I can take the family and the 4X4 (GQ Patrol). As School gos back that week I'll have to make it back straight away. Has any one got any experience with that trip. expected driving times and North or South route.
Thanks in advance

Hi Jugs,

Driving via Broken Hill, Peterborough, Port Augusta, Coober Pedy to Alice Springs is all bituman highway, (I guess from Sydney to Broken Hill is still bituman).
Pt Augusta to Coober Pedy is around a 7 hour trip at 110kms speed limit and about the same time from Coober Pedy to Alice Springs.

Acommadation at Coober Pedy is best a cabin at the Oasis Tourist Park or budget room at the Opal Inn Hotel Motel.

Have a great trip with plenty to see on the Stuart highway. Cheers P&J.

Allow three days via Broken hill and Peterborough. I did it pulling a CT in July. Its a long way and most of the drive is boring. Cheaper to fly because you will use a heap of fuel as you will want to cruise at 100 - 110kph. When in Alice visit the Desert Park. It is magnificent but allow a day for it and do not miss the bird show in the afternoon. If camping or caravaning (or even if in a cabin) stay at MacDonnell Ranges Caravan Park. Lovely people and they have a free pancake breakfast on Sundays. (Its a Big 4 park).

Just keep in mind if staying overnight in Dubbo lock everything up as they have a problem with light fingered people that take anything & everything.
