Sorry cant help you with that.
Have been there but was based in
Alice Springs and just did day trips. The
camping sites all looked
well maintained, but cant say if any one is better than the others. Someone else might be able to help.

Depending on how much walking you want to do, but its probably only an overnight-er.
Glen Helen has a pub (expensive!)
camp ground and accommodation. All the rest are fairly similar, standard
park camping. There is plenty of room if you head up Ellery
creek ( opposite Ellery
Creek Big Hole turn off ),ignore the signs! or up Hugh River.
If you need more info let me know what your looking at doing and I might be able to help.
Cheers

Hi Hairy,
We are heading this way on Saturday and have been looking at areas to stay...noticed that
Palm Springs seems to have a reasonable
camp site.....but also notice that it says 4WD track. We drive a Rav4 which is only a "soft roader" although has proved fairly competant off road. Do you know much about the track into this
camp site? and do you think the Rav would get in there? We will be travelling with a Rangie so will have some backup if needed. Also is it worth the trip out to the East or will it be mostly tracks that will be beyond us? We only have about 10 days in the area so we may be better off seeing the West properly and doing the East another trip...What do you think??
Thanks Phil

Gday Phill,
I assume you mean
Palm Valley, there is no reason you should have any problems getting your car in there, especially with another car travelling with you. I havent been in there for years but apparently the
camp ground is still really good.
None of the roads out the east should cause you any trouble except maybe between ruby george and Glen Annie. Have you see Kings Canyon on the way and if not would this be included in your ten days? I cant see any reason why you cant do East and West in 10 days as long as your not into doing big walks most of the Georges you walk in and out in a couple of hours easily! There are a few nice spots that I doubt would be on a lot of maps that join up with the Larrapinta Trail, if you like going to a spot, setting up
camp and going for day walks?
When are you arriveing in Alice?
Cheers

Hi Hairy,
We are doingKings Canyon on the way up from
Adelaide and then up through the
West MacDonnell Ranges so I would expect we would get to Alice sometime around Thursday or Friday 21st 22nd. Are you in the Alice?

We camped at
Redbank Gorge and it was a really good campground on a
hill overlooking the valley to
the gorge. Room for about a dozen camps and there is a drop
toilet. It was $3.30 per adult.
