Just for a differant trip back, what is the trip/road like down through the above rd.I know it will be hot(will be late Dec/early Jan) as we come down here but I dont want to drive down through the centre of NT again.Alot of this road looks sealed on my map and from here we will branch off onto the Cooper Dev road and on to Broken Hill.
Im not to worried about sight seeing this time as its just a "long cut " back to Melb.We plan to come back and do a corner country trip later.
We will be towing our Tambo Cooper heading for home back in Tassie.

Hi Nick

Most of those outback Queensland Roads are in a fair condition. Some will have corrugations and some may not. Yes, there is some bitumen( and maybe more than the map shows).

You could also head south east from Quilpie towards Cunnamulla and Bourke or take the inland road to Hungerford and beyond. If heading towards BH you will lose the gravel roads when you get there. (Tibooburra to BH has sections of gravel in between the bitumen). JUst drop your tyre pressures(including the camper) to suit the road conditions.

You could also go the Tanami Road and Plenty Hwy to Queensland.

You know it will be hot.....LOL

Enjoy.

We've done the Tanami twice now so I ruled that out as looking for somewhere differant to travel, likewise joining on at Cunnamulla and down to Bourke, did that section when we went up the Cape in '03.We want to come back and do a corner country trip ASAP so this may "wet the app." and get things happening quicker.
Leaving Timber Creek we plan(weather depending) to cut down across the Buchanan Hwy through Top Springs and onto the Stuart Hwy at Dunmarra so coming back the only double up section will be Kun-Tim Crk and Dun-Three Ways.I have done from Three ways to the East coast when I was a little chap with ma and pa but cannot remember it.

Nick
Having spent a lot of time at Mt Isa and quite often travelling the Diamantina Dev Rd and the Birdsville Track in the summer months I can say that you won't have any troubles unless it rains or has rained , take a good supply of water,as well as the usual spares.

Hi Nick,

Drove through from Brissie, Quilpie, Boulia, Tobermorey, Plenty to Alice. Easy drive and good road condition. Heap of dirt but no dramas at all. Camped at Monkira Airstrip only to find they were mustering and shared in with 20 decks waiting to be filled.

Got to love it
Cheers

This trip is looking like it may be a high light in a sad time.
