Got a great view last night. Having seen before pictures of comets that had long whispy tails and then seen the actual faint dots in the sky I had never thought I would see such a display as was available at 10pm onwards. Even with the dusk light it was plain to see. It should be viewable for a few days yet if the clouds hold off. It's worth waking kids for I reckon

G'day John,
Yes, mate....we've been taking the billy-lids out to see the spectacle. We go to a place called Point Riley, over looking the Spencer Gulf......no town lights to bugga-up the view. Special event .......

Mate, that would be special without lights but need a blind for the moon.

Wondering mate, how the new towing machine is going? Now I am towing I have to slow up a bit with the 4.2. Moses is one of the family though.

New machine going bood-ee-full mate. Pesty used his vast engineering skills (gained from sooooo much fixing of 'yotas) on the weekend to address an issue I had with the box on the back not sitting level (The @rse sagged by 40mm and it looked d!cky).
Now I've just gotta get the transfer case, gearbox and air locker changed over from my old bus and get the paint job sorted.......then I'll get some new photos up on this site.
This weekend will be the first towing test.....off to Narrung on the Coorong.
Cheers mate

Yes John,

We walked down the road and stood there for ages...phoned Ray's family in Adelaide and got them out looking too!! It was just brilliant.
Then I looked on a website called spaceweather.com and they've got photos from all over the world. Amazing shots!!

Best wishes

Viv

Heather has been searcing the net too but last night we stood out in the back garden and watched. We had a delivery truck at the time at the dairy that did interfere with the viewing but it was brilliant as you say. Fantastic.

Hope you are well there Vivvie and we can catch up with you guys soon.

We're well, Ray is busy on the tractor since we had a wonderful 140pts over the week end.
Dad is improving and each week brings an achievement towards independence.
We're down in Melbourne over this coming long week end so that he can have some home cooking!!
Look forward to seeing you all again and thanks for the encouragement.

Best wishes

Pleased he is a lot better Viv. I am sure the support you give him helps lots.

Ray will be working long hours with that little bit of rain. We had a nice drop here and have put in some crop seed for stock feed. Hope we can get some follow up.

Yes, it's certainly impressive. Even with the Perth lights glow, it was very visible.
I was working on the Nullarbor in early 1970, and witnessed the comet Kohutek. For several nights, I got up at about 3am and saw it hanging low in the SE sky. Not as big as McNaught, (prob about twice the magnitude of the moon) but a more classic shape, with a conical spray of dust behind.
Certainly beats Halley's comet! What a fizzer that was!

John,

Top shot.

My mate at Goulburn has taken a few good ones as well.

I think they're all pretty spectacular. From the various shots from various sources.

Checkout the new rack/carrier that mounts on the toolbox for the Karavan. It's under the what's new page on the website. Think I might be interested.

I agree Garth, but I have to give credit to the photographer. It appears courtesy of The Age site I pasted the link to.

I will have a look at the site in a minute. Been talking to another couple of proud owners. Can you email me please and I will forward some info.

Hi John R, we live in the hills of Perth and had been wantching the comet from the front of the house, however we went down south to my brothers farm on Saturday for a shearing shed party, the farm is along the Stirling Ranges, about 9pm I went out to look for it and it was just going behind the tip of one of the hills, it was just awesome, it looked as though the hill was steaming, it was the best comet that I have seen (I have lived long enough to have seen a few!!!!!) and guess what, no camera, had left home in a hurry and forgot the camera, ( a visit from murphey)

Cheers

Yes, down on the farm it was very dark, no city skyline to dull the tail and the hill made it even more spectacular. Seeing things like that make me realise how much I still miss the farm.

G'day John,

Yes, I got a very similar view to that photo over in Adelaide and it was about 10 o'clock (mickey mouse time).

Pity you posted the link identifying Nicole from the Age as the photographer mate.

For a moment there I thought that excellent photo may have been yours:-)

Bill.

Can you imagine how clear it would look from somewhere like William Creek on the Oodnadatta Track. (If you could get there at the moment of course)

I'll bet Willem is getting a pretty fair view from Warraweena, providing of course he is still up after dark when the Bogey man is about.

I had the pleasure of being in seat 1A, a left hand window seat, 10km up, in a northbound Virgin flight on the east coast, just going dark so the comet was highlighted against the black sky but with the sun shining directly on it.....

Only better view would have been in the space station.

Ok I have 4 days off as of thursday night. Am prepared to drive as long as it takes to get a good view of it. Am in Sydney and was planning on going to Barrington Tops. Would it be better to camp at the base of Kosciosko........ (Need a z in there somewhere). Maybe Warrumbungles.
Will it still be seen on the weekend?

Astronomical type bloke we were standing next to last night said it'll be around for another month or so , so you won't have any dramas seeing it provided the sky is clear of course.
Over here in SA (country town), we can see it from our backyard, but have been out to the coast a few times to get an even better view.
I would imagine you would get a good look from anywhere that you can find that doesn't have too much background light (right away from Syd-en-ey of course).....
Good luck...... (if you don't mind driving, why not head out to Broken Hill!!!!! hahaha)
