Hi everyone! I am thinking of a 4WD Amesz SWB or LWB for a Lo-o-o-ng trip, two years or so. Are Amesz the right vehicles for this? Are they a) hardy enough, b) able to be lived in for such a long time?
Adie.

Thanks to all those who followed up for me. The site is www.amesz.com.au and they make really robust looking vehicles. They range from a SWB kit that they claim will go anywhere (I was thinking of the tracks to Jim Jim Fall in
Kakadu and similar where it is just 4 x 4 and no vans even in the Dry) to buses. But is it better to get a 4 x 4 and tow a van or can these things really go anywhere? If they can are they big enough to live in, maybe days at a time in the Wet? Is there anyone out there that actually has one or owned one? They are B-expensive but I could be tempted if they are right!
Adie.

Adie, I have had experience with a 4WD Hino coach roughly the same size as the MAN, and was restricted frequently on tracks with overhanging trees.
Not sure if the boss wanted a sunroof in it, but I wasn't game to take it
home with a piece taken out of the roof.
Also
the overhang on the rear was a problem on some washouts.
We had standard size tyres on ours too, rather than the balloons.
We figured if you had tyre trouble you had more chance of getting a similar tyre not too far away, the replacement for a ballon tyre maybe in
Melbourne or
Sydney or wherever. Not too many of them around the regional areas.
Looking at the photo of the Canter, the exhaust looks a bit susceptible to overhanging trees too, but I guess it's there to comply with NSW RTA regulations with it coming to the top of the vehicle.
Not sure about the regulations in other states.

We saw one used as a tourist vehicle some years ago - everyone went to see
the gorge and we rushed to talk to the driver about this impressive looking vehicle. I think it was a multi-wheeled thing - more rugged looking than the models they now advertise.
Looked like it would convert to a beaut motor
home. A few years later, we met a couple who had sold their
home to live on the road. They said they had not restricted their search for a manufacturer to WA, but chose Amesz as the best ones to custom build their motor
home. It looked fabulous, had all mod cons as it was their
home. It was quite tall though.

Our friends have just picked up an Amesz LWB Mitsubishi Canter. Was 6 months in the making and quality control was not as claimed. Many problems - large and small.
They like the idea, the set up, and most of the manufacture. But they are still disappointed with the quality control. Be insistent.

G'day Adie. I flew over to see the owners of Amesz 2 years ago with the intent of buying one of the MAN, their operation is only small but their workmanship is fantastic, spent a half a day there & came away impressed. We now own a Hino 4x4 10t vehicle built along the same lines but built by ABLE also in W.A. If you need to justify the cost then head over for a visit & see Hans & take a good look at them.
Are they the right vehicle for a long trip, in short YES. If you want to have plenty of then get the longest wheelbase you can, that is why we went for the Hino as the Mitsubishi didn't have enough space for 3 people for 2 month's non stop on the road.
