The following is from an update from ParksVic today:

Whilst many roads and tracks have re-opened in the northern complex since early to mid-January there is now a strong focus on re-opening areas ahead of the Labour Day long-weekend and Easter holidays.

Before Labour Day long-weekend priority areas to re-open are those affected by the fires around Bright (please note most of Bright was not fire affected) because of the popular camping; hiking, four-wheel drive and horse riding areas and Howqua track from Buller Road to Stockyard in the Merrijig-Timbertop area and Powers Lookout picnic area.

Areas to re-open in time for the Easter include:

The remainder of Howqua track
Sheepyard Flat camping area
Fry’s Flat camping area
Wonnongatta Valley Homestead site and camping area
Mt Stirling Circuit Road
Horseyard Flat camping area
The Pinnacles
Walking tracks around Walhalla Historic Area
West Kiewa Road.

Areas already open include:

Mount Buffalo National Park (including most walking tracks and Lake Catani Camp Ground)
Mt Bogong hiking areas (Staircase Spur, Eskdale Spur, Granite Flat and Mountain Creek)
Feathertop area (Bungalow Spur, Bon Accord Spur, Razorback)
The Licola, Jamieson Road.

It is expected that a majority of popular visitor facilities and walking tracks at Mount Buffalo will be open by Easter 2007.

Please remember that entry to Mount Buffalo National Park will be free of charge until after the Easter school holidays.

Hi Andrew

Thanks for this information

It appears that the area around the Snowy Mountains NP and McKillops bridge is all un touched by fires and remains accessible.

Cheers
Phil

Quite a few new fires this afternoon from the lightning. Most are small at this stage or have been contained:
