Adventure CT are a very good product and you will be happy with your choice.

Other brands in that price range are the Kimberley Kamper and the Australian Off Road camper.

For somewhat less, but still a very good value for money solution is the Pioneer Argyle.

There are others worthy od consideration also, depending on what your specific requirements may be.

Have a look at www.campertrailers.org and look under Manufacturers for the Web sites of each to get an idea of their individual features.

Now getting back to your current choice, the Adventure brand is somewhat unique in its design and certainly worthy of high consideration. There is not many second hand ones around, so that should speak for itself.

we have a kimberley kamper and am happy with it we were also very keen on the aussie swag, the camper o matic is as good as well but what swayed us to the kk was that it can be made to track the same as the poopular 4wd's, this i think is very important for off road use.

I looked at the adventure campers and they looked well made, but $40k .............its just a camper trailer for heavens sake, looked about worth half that at best.Same goes for other brands also.Maybe we should start a manufacturing group up,but I guess thats another subject.

This is just my 2cents worth. My wife and I spent many months deciding on which of the many great camper trailers to purchase and ended up with the Tvan by track trailer- reasons. It truly only takes seconds from stop to in bed. It is the only one we found that never has wet canvas folded onto /above the bed, the suspension is great and it is very easy to tow [ 3ltr patrol ]. the only draw back we saw was storage for this reason we had ours made without the kitchen as we already had a gas stove and all the cooking gear we needed and we use the kitchen space for more storage. They also maintain their value well and a second hand one is hard to come buy. Finally they are within your price range.
As I said just my 2cents worth but we are very happy with our purchase.

Another drawback,

You cannot fit a boat rack to the Tvan.

When we did research about two years ago, we developed a 'long list' which included Kimberley Kamper, Ultimate, Cape York, Campomatic and Odyssey. Also liked the Coota Camper, but dropped from the list early on as it is just too heavy for our needs.

Our 'short list' came down to Cape York (made in Cairns) and the Odysey (made at Caloundra). We chose the Odyssey and after many trips including about 16 weeks in the Kimberley last year, we are delighted with it.

But of coures, most owners of any of the top 6 or 8 brands are similarly happy.

Some simple tips:
If you want a queen size, make sure you measure or get an assurance on the actual measurements (Queens are 5 feet wide). Some CT manufacturers call their beds Queen, when they are not.

Consider storage in the kitchen area. Most have pretty good storage inside under the bed, but there is a difference in kitchen storage.

Consider how you will use the camper. We camp remotely a fair bit, so have 2 water tanks totalling 200 litres, 4 gerry can holders on the CT, 2 gas bottles, provision for 2 120AH batteries (though I currently only carry one on the CT. You will probably want a different setup. During your research make sure you know what your plans are and that the trailer will be right for you. Much easier to get work done during manufacture that after.

Hi Norm
We purchased a Cape York CT about 7 years ago and have done many trips to the cape and kimberley with it and the only fault we can find is the draw bar weight must surely exceed legal limits when fully loaded.
The only thing rear of the independant suspension is the underslung spare wheel, everything else, storage, water tank, battery, gas bottle, jerry cans are all forward.
Had to beef up the suspension on the GU and now it tows very well but still a big concern about all that weight forward.
I purchased the boat loader at the same time and that was the biggest waste of $1700 I've had, so now resorted to fitting rollers on camper and unloading boat each stopover.
I know it sounds like I am not happy with the Cape York CT, but apart from the above problems I am extremely pleased with it's performance especially over corrugated ground plus it is very quick to set up, and very well built.
Glad to hear you are delighted with your Odyssey
Cheers Ray (Townsville)

Well we have done the shows and reckon the Furphy CT made in Shepparton in Vic is our pick of the bunch. We wanted a solid floor with ours and the Furphy had a large area under canvas, the best kitchen setup not too tall for the 5'2" chief cook and bottle washer, and the engineering is spot on, good ideas throughout and well executed.

Was maybe 26-32k as I recall.

Agree with the general points offered by Norm. We went through the same process a couple of years ago and settled on the Kimberley mainly because one nearly new one came on the market that suited our requirements.

Having just got back from six months living in it we were very happy with the way it performed. It copped a flogging and just kept on going. During that time, I checked out heaps of other people's rigs and there are some top units. AORC, T-Van and the Ultimate all look really good. I liked the Ultimate, but with two kids it was not the right option for us. You also need to decide whether cooking inside or out is the go for you. I prefer to cook outside (under the awning at least) but for some the ability to cook inside is important. Horses for courses.

Yes, the better quality ones are a lot of money. But have a good think about resale value as well. The brands that are hard to pick up second hand are a good starting point in this regard. We bought our KK two years ago and gave it a fair workout then sold it for the same money. I reckon it doesn't owe us too much. Also on the money front, expensive doesn't necessarily mean reliable, but there is a strong correlation. Our 'big trip' was a once in a lifetime opportunity for us and the last thing we wanted was a big hole punched in our trip waiting for expensive recovery and repairs.

Good luck with your choice.

Matt.

We have a Camprite and are very happy with it. It is well suited to a family of 4 as it has a double bed plus two singles all off the ground. Like any camper, they all make compromises but i found the Camprite the best for a family and its quality is above reproach.

If you have a family then the Camprite is definelty worth checking out.

Cheers

Hi Daryl,

WE have a KK Ltd Edition with mariner pack and are very happy with it. We had a few minor teething prob's which have all been sorted .
One thing to think about is the weight of the camper loaded (not empty as most figures are quoted as) and what type of vehicle to tow it. Most of the better campers are in the 900kg - 1200kg range .
The trader section has a few KK / aussie swag campers depending where you live. Good luck with what ever you decide to do.

Daryl

Kanga Campertrailers in Wodonga makes a range of absolutely outstanding campertrailers soft and hard floor. The new Escape is, in my opinion, the best value for money camper on the market for $35K.

I have the Big Red DL model (soft floor) and it has performed exceptionally well on trips to Cape York and the Flinders and elsewhere. I've also found that Gary and Jodie, the young couple who run this business, provide the absolute best in after sales service.

Disclaimer: I have no interest in Kanger Campertrailers other than being a very satisfied customer.

Cheers
Pete

We have a 2004 Campomatic Ranger - we've done quite a few trips now and towed it over some long, rough roads. The level of 'finish' could have been better on ours - seems that it is greatly improved in the current model - I think they only have the one, boat loader model now. We were after a hard floor camper with some extras (great kitchen, plenty of water, jerries and electrics etc) and it came down to the KK, the Campo, and the Aussie Swag (our 2004 choices - might be expanded if doing it now). The KK and th AS are both very well made in my view - we liked the Campo kitchen best - would have gone KK all in all but for the down weight on the hitch - bit too heavy for our Jack - Campo won out ! No regrets at all - and it even has a rear mounted swing away spare.

G'day Daryl, we have just been to the Adelaide Camping Show and looked at lots of different ones.
Settled on an Odyssey from Australian Offroad Campers.
Excellent design and engineering, brilliant kitchen. even a hot shower. quite a bit under $35K.
Have a look at their website.

Have a look at the Tvan. They are not for everyone but ours suits us down to the ground. They will go anywhere the vehicle can go. The hard shell sleeping area appealed to us the most, no wet canvas to fold onto the bed.

IMO , it boils down to personal preference, especially with these top end CT's.

Pretty much any of these , KK's , Ultimates, Adventure, etc etc , are very well made in their own right.

Personally , the Ultimate would be well worth having a look at , but, equally , the Adventure Trailers are excellent in their design.

KK, Aussie swag, Campomatic, Off Road Trailers, Pioneer are good if you want to setup quick and have no kids....

Tvan if you like being in an enclosed space...

Ultimate if you want a longer setup time but a bit more luxury....

Camprite if you want room or you have kids...

and about 44 others if you want a soft floor...

If you don't want to spend anymore than 40 grand then that rules out the Ultimate, but if it was my money I would pick between the KK, aussie swag or the off road oddessey.

Saw some neat options at Illawarra Show

They are a couple of very well designed fibreglass CT's:

- Exodus from Newcastle NSW. Very neat unit that can be lifted off the trailer. New model will have independent suspension (due about March). Owner has a boat building background and makes good stuff.
www.exoduscampers.com.au/

- Travelander from Queensland, with independent air bag suspension, though would be about 1500Kg+ fully laden
www.travelander.com.au/

Both around the $35-40K with very good build quality.

Cheers,
Alastair
