Planning a trip this
Easter. Taking Hilux & Camper on ferry. Plan to stay on good roads most of time and
camp at parks. Have mum & sister who can't take the jolting around on rough tracks. I've seen
Launceston,
Hobart and
Port Arthur. Any tips on where to go, route to take,
places not to miss. More interested in natural sights.

Hi Twinkles. We spend 7 glorious weeks in Tassie last Feb/March. How long are you going for? My daughter and family (toddler, partner plus in-laws) spent around 10 days
Easter the year before that (she had worked in Tassie for a year in her past). They flew in and did a tour with hire car and pre-booked cabins. I must get her to write down her route.
You are not on my list as having received my pictorial trip notes. If you would like to see these, please let me have your email address and i can show you the wonderful natural sights we saw.
Almost all of the roads are good and bitumised (even if some of the minor ones are narrow and winding). Don't take the "Western Explorer" this time.
The Devil's Gullet is one of the few top spots we saw that is on a dirt road and may be a bit rough for your criteria. Plenty of fabulous stuff to choose from on bitumen roads, although you often do need to take a walk in to see the waterfall or what ever. We appreciate the exercise when travelling, and try and do one reasonable walk a day where ever we travel (dodgy knees included).

Twinkles,
I'll second Motherhen's comments. We received Motherhen's notes and there's some fantastic information to be found.
We were heading down on 24th March for a month but our new van has been delayed. So we have our fingers crossed it'll arrive in the next week so we can still snag a spot on the ferry. If not we'll head up towards
Alice Springs etc.

If time is limited, I reckon the North East and then the East coast as far south as
Coles Bay (
Wineglass Bay-you have to walk this one) or the other short option is head for
Cradle Mountain National
Park (South West of
Devonport) and some of
the caves in that area, then the West Coast down to
Strahan (
Gordon River cruise) - terrific geology and Steam (train) museum at
Zeehan.
If you think you can see Tassie in a week - you are sadly mistaken, but if you take your time, there are lots of
places between these options above that will have you wanting to come back and stay longer.
I've lived in
Hobart for almost 25 years on and off, I travel and 4wd tour as much as possible but there are still
places I've yet to see.
Feel free to email me for more details if you wish.
Cheers
John E

Thanks all. I have 2 weeks. The sight seeing will be a bit limited as I can't walk far. Smashed my tibia plateau last April. Still have 2 operations this year. Wanted to see some of Tassie before my next operation.

I did 12 days in a campervan after I sailed down to
Hobart. Stayed at
Hobart, Lake St
Clare,
Strahan,
Cradle Mountain,
Stanley,
Ulverstone,
St Helens, Tribunna,
Port Arthur,
Hobart. Saw all the main tourist stuff.
I'm going to take the 4WD down to cover the stuff off the main roads I missed.

Tasmania have ( did have, last time I was there) a fantastic free newspaper which splits the island into 3 sections, and each section list their towns and their accomodation. We just worked out roughly where we would be by beer o'clock, and rang ahead to look for vacancies (caravan
park chalets, motels etc). It's a marvellous, relaxed way to travel such a beautiful state.

Hi Twinkles
I think we picked up our first copy at the airport when we arrived, but I seem to recall they are all over the place. Perhaps ask the first tourist bureau you strike, or even a caravan park/motel.
Travel
well
