Hi there,
I am chasing any recent info on the Ka Ka Mundi National Park. Have had a look throiugh the archives but there is very little info on this section of the park.
I am wondering what access there is to the park, and info on the campground there. We will be towing a Trackabout Safari with a Patrol. Any problems there.

Thanks for the help
Adam

Adam,
I went out to Salvatore Rosa and Ka Ka Mundi 2 Easters ago and the camp ground at Ka Ka Mundi then was very dusty and no facilities at all. The camp ground was an area pushed by a dozer by the look of it. Salvatore Rosa was a very good camp ground with a small creek, very shallow but good for a cool off. Some friends came to visit us in September last year and went to go in and it was all closed. For recent info check out the NPWS website and get a phone no. for the ranger, he is at Springsure or Emerald from memory. Nice area but.

Cheers Andrew

Yes, I was there in December.

In the Salvator Rosa part of the park, there is a campsite on the Nogoa which is in a nice spot.

In the Ka Ka Mundi area there is a campsite of sorts near Bunbuncundoo Springs but there is not much development of the park nor interpretive material available. I am good friends with some locals and even they don't have much info.

There are no fulltime parks folks in either Goodliffe, SR or KKM parts of the park either - there is a senior ranger in Emerald and I suggest you touch base with her and discuss your plans and interests.

Wonderful country - I can' think why it was closed in September - were there fires around then? I know there were fires on the Northern side of the park.

Anyways, take it easy, and report back on what you enjoyed and how you found it.

CHeers
Andrew.

Thanks for the info.
Sounds as though the Ka Ka Mundi area is not as good as it sounds. We will be going over Easter and from what I have read, Carnarvon Gorge is very full. We would prefer to be a bit away from the throngs and that is why we were going to KKM. Is Salvator Rosa any more difficult to get to??

Regards
Adam

Salvator Rosa is really no harder to get to ... suggest you get a map? ;-)

I'd guess the roads in were made at the same time and have had about the same (little) maintenance.

That said, there is a good reason that the Gorge area is busy ;-)

Andrew,
Cheers again. Would love to get a decent map, but as I am floating off the coast of NZ at the moment, it's a little difficult. Unfortunately wont be home until a few days before Easter so trying to glean as much info online as possible.
Every little bit helps

Thanks
Adam

A couple of years ago we went to Mt Moffat for the same reason, to get away from the crowds at Canarvon Gorge.

This was the June school holidays, and there were3 families/small groups in the park, and a few day visitors.

2 good camp sites, and some interesting places to see.

Pit toilets (with room to hang a shower bag) and if you are lucky the rain water tanks may be full enough for some basic water.
