Hi All,

Just a couple of quick questions for the well traveled to help me with my trip planning.

1. What is the makeup of the track from Camerons Corner to the Strzelecki Track via Bollards Lagoon, is it sand dune country or dry dusty tracks?
2. Is the trip from Innamincka to Birdsville via Cordillo Downs a one or two day trip?

I look forward as usual to your well informed replies.

Thanks,

Matt

BV to Innamincka via the Cordillo Track is a 1 day trip (even taking it easy as we always do)..... some parts of the CT are very stony but. Have not done Bollards.

Camerons Corner to Strez is a pleasant rollercoaster - a reasonable gravel road these days I gather, but haven't travelled it for 10 years. First time I did it, was in the 70's in a Corolla and it was a whole lot of fun skidding over the soft sand on the tops of the dunes.

Innamincka to Birdsville is a long day trip - depends on when the track was last graded - it can get pretty rough if it hasn't been graded lately, and it is easily affected by rain. We prefer to do it in 2 days, and bush camp somewhere along the way.

Hi Matt.
I did the trip 5 years ago & found a mixture of dusty roads & sand(not dunes as experienced in crossing the simpson.)
I am planning another trip to the same area in July07 & would appreciate your comments after your trip. When where you doing your trip?
Regards.
Vince

CC to Strezlecki is clayed topped dunes.
Sit on 40 to 80km/hr.
Watch cresting the dunes for others on the wrong side or centre of the road.

1. Clay capped corrugated dunes suitable for a Subaru or towing an off raod van.
2. A big day to Birdsville which ever way you go, leave early, drive fast & get in by 5.30. The main road North is fairly rough so I recomend heading out via the dig tree & Arrabury. If you have the time break the drive by camping at Cadelga.
Cheers Craig............

The Bollards Lagoon Track is a very pleasant drive and is quicker than going via the Strez from CC to Innaminka.

It is mostly a firm track with sand drifting on top there are some soft sandy sections and towards the northern end there are sections of stony track too.

Just after you leave the Bollards Lagoon homestead you cross a fairly wide dry lake which is a lot of fun. But, if there has been a lot of traffic this can get a bit soft and rutted, the ruts tend to steer the car a little so it is worth being a bit cautious if it is like this.

We have done Broken Hill to Innamincka via the Bore Track in a day on two seperate occasions now. It's not a huge day but you do have to keep movingm. Oh Broken Hill was home at the time.

Also, if you are using the Bore Track you must call at Bollards Lagoon Homestead, there is a $10 per vehicle fee to use the track. It is worth it.

One more thing. If you are going to CC allow some time to kill in the Corner Store. Great people and it's allways good for a laugh to spend some time in an out of the way country pub. Even if you only buy icecreams.

Matt, as said above the track from Strz. to C.C is up and down and little of everything. Innamincka to BV via C.Downs is a long drive and the road is/was crapy in July last year, we stayed the night at Haddon Corner, which we were going to do anyway, had the place to ourselves, it was magnificent night. H.C is about 15kms from the C.Downs track.

We were suppose to go Bollards lagoon but missed the sign for it so went merty merty way throught the gas fields to innamincka...very windy but flat and good run....

cdr is one dayer from what ive figured....were going to go this way to bv but it was a lot more rougher than walkers so we went walkers....changes every 30 km or so from wild flowers to sand dunes to flat boring to gibber then starts all over again!!!

which ever way you plan to go - have a back up...we used our back up plan more than the original plan!!!
