Ed I haven't been up this season but from the reports I've heard you wont yet see water from the edge of Lake Eyre anywhere & without followup rain may not this season. The only gaurenteed spot to see water (from your car) at this stage is on the
Warburton River. Can't actually drive right into the lake but Kalamurina Station has some
nice camp spots with tonnes of bird life (not unlike
Innamincka). For the moment a plane flight out of
William Creek is the best viewing spot.

I agree Crackles,
William Creek is also another good spot to
camp for a couple of days.
You then have the option of driving out to the Lake's edge at
Halligan Bay, or taking a scenic fight out over the lake with Wrightsair.
In fact, if taking the flight option you can incorporate a two flight deal as we did.
Flew over
the Painted Desert at sunset, across Anna Creek Station then set out the next day for a flight over the Lake, part of the
Simpson Desert and landed at
Dalhousie Springs for a dip.

Thanks for the link Pom. Might have to join the club as a member seeing we qualified by boating on the lake via the
Warburton river a few years ago.

Hi Ed,
A nice place to
camp is on the banks of the Frome river near Muloorina
homestead. Muloorina is 50kms from
Marree.
There is a large
camping area set up with
toilets and I think shower.
The Frome has water in it from the
bore by the Homestaed with a lot of bird life.
If you get hot enjoy a nice swim!
From there you can head out to Lake Eyre for a day trip and return to the
camp at night. Lake Eyre is 40 Kms form the
homestead.
Camp fees are a donation in the trusty box which goes to RFDS.

Have heard (yes, it's a rumour - not confirmed at this stage) that Muloorina is closed to the public over the
Easter period.
Hope you were not wanting to go up there then.
Cheers

Hi Rick,
I used to work at
Muloorina Station as a station hand and the
homestead is closed to toutists all the time. The camping grounds by the Frome river are not. There is a private reunion on over
Easter and I will be there. They may have closed the camping grounds for
Easter I am not sure.

Rick
Not sure that they can do that because its a tourist road to Lake Eyre via the camping grounds. People from Roxby use the
camping area all holiday periods. Will find out Thursday (bit late I know !) on my arrival. Cheers P@J

We camped at the
campground near Muloorina last week and then at
Halligan Bay the night after. No water in the Lake (apart from a puddle near the road out from Muloorina at Lake Eyre South), The road out from
William Creek to
Halligan Bay is appalling - over two hours to do 60km, so take it very easy, but if you are OK camping somewhere so remote (no birds, no signs of life at all, apart from flies) it is very beautiful. Sun sets over the lake, then rises over the lake, as you are on a bit of a point. You should have a SA Desert Parks Pass, but we paid $11 for a Day Pass - we were leaving at 7am, so we thought that would be OK!
