G'Day all,

trying to plan a journey to Sydney tomorrow, I'm having trouble getting tom tom or co-pilot to take me the way I wanna go.

I'm going to lane cove park, and coming in on the F3 Newcastle-Sydney highway, now I figure easiest way is down Pacific Highway, then left onto Fullers road, then that follows onto Millwood avenue, and turn right into Lady Game drive DESTINATION.

I run an hp2790, and have tom tom and co-pilot on it, but both seem to want to take me complex ways via city, even tried whereis.com which is what tom tom is based on, and seem to get same issue.

Can anyone advise me please on how to get either prog to go that way, or do I just follow my NEW CBD maps and forget sat nav?

Rgds

Your own directions are spot on!!

Forget the GPS!

I have copilot, but have no idea how to programme it!

Good luck

Thanks Dave, my thoughts too.

It has the F3 on it but seems to go a different way, I tried via, and trying to put in Fullers road but wouldnt recognise it.

Think I'll just need to go with the handraulic map and the hand brake reading it.

Have you tried shortest or quickest route function or do you have avoid Toll activated.....Don't know Sydney that well.....So not sure if Toll is involved....

I don't have either of those GPS's...I have a Navman and it can give you varied ways to go depending on what is activated in your controls......

Hope this helps.....

Try turning right onto Fullers, much shorter.

Use Co-pilot, it allows the use of route waypoints to alter the calculated route.

I can only talk about Co-Pilot as it is the only one I'm familiar with.

In the settings, you can configure Co-Pilot to give you the quickest route, a route avoiding toll roads, or a route based on main roads, etc.

Co-Pilot also comes with a PC based application, where you can plan your route and download it to the PDA. Co-Pilot will then direct you along that specific route. (Now maybe my logic is flawed, but if you know which way you want to go, why use anything to tell you anyway).

I use Co-Pilot when I'm not sure of the route and then let it tell me the way. If I choose a different road along the way, Co-Pilot will generally recalculate the route without "spitting the dummy".

For South Australian readers amongst us, Co-Pilot even directed me onto the Southern Expressway, at the correct time for one way traffic in the direction I was going, which suprised me a bit. I must test this at the "incorrect" time of the day at some point in time.

For other readers, this unique "Expressway" allows one way direction at specific times of the day. On weekdays, the direction is towards the City in the mornings and away from the City in the afternoons. On weekends and Public Holidays the direction is South (away from the City) in the mornings and North (towards the City) in the afternoons. Now that takes some programming to be recognised by Co-Pilot, or any other Routing program for that matter.

mmmmmmmmmmmmm wonder if it is relying on the internal clock or the atomic clocks in the satellites....you're right this could've cost the programmer a number of sleepless nights.

Without trying to answer the question about the nav equipment, you have got yourself going the WRONG WAY.

The Lane Cove River Tourist Park is in Plassey Road, on the opposite side of the river from Lady Game. DON'T GO THE WAY YOU SAID OR YOU WILL BE VERY LOST.

May I suggest:

1. Down Pacific Highway then turn RIGHT to RYDE ROAD - a big intersection well marked. It is Metroad 3. Proceed for 3 or 4 km - crossing a big bridge over Lane Cove River, and over a freeway and keep ahead.

2. You will come to EPPING ROAD. Ryde Road continues under a bridge but you turn LEFT onto Epping Road just before the bridge.

3. Head east along Epping Road and turn left at the SECOND traffic lights onto DELHI ROAD. You go through a messy intersection just around the corner, make sure you DO NOT TURN ONTO THE FREEWAY - stay on Delhi Road.

4. Go about 1 km or less to the next lights, turn LEFT into PLASSEY ROAD. You will see the Caravan park sign and go along it to near the end and there is the park.

Hope that helps!

On Google Maps I clicked on "get directions" and put in "Turrumurra" to "Plassey Road Lane Cove" and got the map for the way I said.

Also meant to say that coming along Fullers Road and Millwood Avenue to Delhi Road is possible but a steep narrow winding road with Sydney traffic driving like Sydney traffic - not a good task with a van. The way i said is all multi lane so they can pass you!

We have a GPS built in and call it "Ruth the Route Director" but I would rather wife the Route Director.
