Been thinking............ bit deep but.....
Often we see posts about "last day at work going away, big trip etc etc"
Then we see "Trip was great back to he real world"
We've all been there.
I'm wondering if you really really enjoy your work does it become the everlasting holiday.
Secondly, if you turn what you enjoy into a business/work does it cease to be fun.
I've pondered this one, what do you all think?

Work=something you do for money
Holidays= something you do for fun
I turned a hobby into a small hobby business then it became a small business and now it's not that much fun, nor very financially rewarding. However it is still immensly rewarding personally. I'm sure that others have a different story.

For the last 27 years I have got up in the morning and thought "I am going to work, you beauty"
For roughly 4 weeks each year I have got up in the morning and thought "I am on holidays, as good as work is this beats it into fits."
Seriously I enjoy my job, it is challenging, satisfying and rewarding. But there is nothing better than a week in the bush. Ok maybe 2 weeks, 3 weeks..........7 weeks or even 8 weeks. Sa far that is as far as the long service leave has stretched.
Never have made money out of a hobby so I don't know what that is like.

I think anything that you enjoy and then turn it into you Job would destroy it, cause it goes from being something you are doing cause you can, to something you do cause you have to.
I like the field of work I am in but I still hate going to work.

You are absotluty right, about 15 years ago because I was
well known in fly fishing circles I got into guiding to help a mate out and hated it. And for a while it ruined my faverite hobby. Went back to tiling and I then use to look forward to going fishing again. A lot of the pleasure is the anticpation.

G-T
Firstly - get rid of those four duds you own/drive and buy a JEEP and all your problems will be solved.
Secondly - Always remember it is far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though chequered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.
Thirdly - you way to much time on your hands pondering chit like that.
Fourthly - if all else fails , take up crocodile wrestling and you will be wishing you had taken the retirement option.
Maaaaaaaaate! could you please tell us what pills you take to give you such thoughts, because I need to get a bucket of them (LOL)

Was a full time primary teacher. Hung out for the 'hols' all the time. You know.... all those holidays that teachers get?
Now I work from dawn to the wee smalls every day. Didn't even realize that it was a public holiday on Labor Day!! Barely know when the weekend hits.
Love it. Get up each morning thinking of the various things to be done that day... look forward to it.
Don't miss the holidays. I have a 20min holiday every couple of hours and sometimes a 2 hour holiday.
Then sometimes I take on a big challenge or adventure and off we go.. last year 6 weeks in Europe... did some work while I was there.
Holidays are a state-of-mind. I have worked my way around Oz three times... felt like a holiday each time.
I reckon retirement is a bit the same... a state of mind. Not sure what it is really...

I have two part time
places of employment. I think once they become a job I will not enjoy them as much.
First position is a tool maker. I have been doing this for over 30 years with a 10 year break about 10 years ago when I was fitting 4wd accessories.
I still enjoy toolmaking now but only do it on a very casual basis. Normally 3 days a week.
The second place of employment is Australia. For 8 months of the year I am touring Australia, and I am just about to head north west for the winter(5 months). Even though I visit the same
places each year, it is the people that are with me that make it different.
To be paid to go out camping, and touring Australia in a 4wd is still exciting for me, even after 13 years with GDT.
The fact that I don't own the business is also a bonus, less stress and once it becomes a job, that is when I will stop do it.
Wayne

Trop,
I once turned my hobby into my job. Was getting paid incredibly
well. Although it was not in the direction I wanted but it was still in the industry. At the end there I was getting the average yearly wage in 3 months. One morning I woke up and realised my passion had become my job, I was not putting my heart into it anymore. My work had become stale. There was no more creativity......I had finally crossed the line after 7 years of having a great time. I put my camera down a did not touch it for 3 years. The best thing about it is I now know what direction I want to take my photography and am slowly getting things sorted to acheive that goal........ Got some very exciting prospects happening in the next 12mths........ including an 8 week trip from
sydney to
exmouth and back via the gary and anne beadell.
I'm in the process of getting out of the business I have now. Anyone want to buy an Excavator? :)
Anyway the only thing you can do is give it a go.

Hi All
My philosophy in life, which I try to live by are three things.
*Dont be a watcher, be a do-er.
*You only get out of life, what you put in to it.
*God helps those who helps them selves, and God help those who get caught
helping them selves.
END OF SERMON
Cheers
Daza
