Yes, there is a Checkpoint at Ceduna.SA, & again at Border Village when returning.Topic covered many times on the Forum.

Quarantine Regulations & Checkpoints
Regulations and restrictions are in place throughout Australia relating to the
such as on the Great Central Road, the checkpoints are honesty boxes.

Western Australia Quarantine Checkpoints
Eucla - tightly enforced regulations for travellers entering WA via the Nullarbor. All fruit - fresh or dried will be confiscated as will vegetables, honey and fruit boxes. Contact (08) 9039 3227 for further information.

Kununurra - NT/WA border on the Victoria Highway also has very strict quarantine regulations that are enforced. See www.agric.wa.gov.au

Halls Creek - on the approach to the Great Northern Highway from the south (ie. if you have come up the Tanami Track from NT) you will find a Quarantine bin on the left just before the bitumen. You will be required to deposit all fruit, vegetables, honey and fruit boxes if you are en-route from NT or SA. WA travellers do not need to deposit anything at this checkpoint provided they have not left the state.

Queensland Quarantine Checkpoints
Within Queensland bananas, mangoes and other fruit and vegetables cannot be taken onto the Cape York peninsula. This is done to stop the spread of specific exotic diseases. See www.dpi.qld.gov.au or phone Dept of Primary Industries (DPI) or Phone: 13 25 23 (cost of a local call within Queensland) or +61 7 3404 6999

Some stores (eg. Woolworths) can provide you with a DPI certificate for your produce if you ask for it at the time of purchase. This is presented at the checkpoints to avoid having your food confiscated.

Northern Territory Quarantine Checkpoints
Phone DPI (08) 8999 2138

Tasmania Quarantine Checkpoints
All entry ports have strict quarantine regulations.
www.dpiw.tas.gov.au

NSW, Victoria and SA Quarantine Checkpoints
All travellers need to be aware that there is a zone across these 3 states called the "Fruit Fly Exclusion Zone". The Fruit Fly Exclusion zone means it is illegal to take ANY fresh fruit - including tomatoes, capsicum and avocadoes into any area within the zone. Random roadblocks operate within the zone and $200 minimum on the spot fines apply.

For more detailed information ring the TriState Fruit Fly freecall number 1800 084 881 (b/h).

Ian,

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong I'm sure, but to my knowledge you will have no problem bringing in both fruit and vegetables from WA into the region you are visiting in South Australia.

You just can't take them back into WA again because of the WA regulations, even though you may have originally purchased them there.

The fruit fly zone is the Riverland district and you cannot take fruit into that zone.

The regulations may seem a bit bizarre, but they are there for a good reason and people are just plain foolish if they try to "smuggle" stuff through.

I found myself on one trip where we passed though the Riverland on our way to our final destination and came across a checkpoint. We had a good selection of bananas & oranges, all of which went into the bin. No big deal, we just replenished our supplies in one of the towns along the way.
Again, the oranges may well have come from the Riverland originally, but no sense in taking chances and compromising an important primary industry with possibly contaminated fruit, all for the sake of a few dollars.

There is a fruit fly block at Ceduna which stops traffic travelling east and it oporates the same as the fruit fly block Yamba.
