Ok I've gone green with envy at you guys tripping around, now its my turn again.
11 days to go before I pick up my passenger and head off on the great tourist trip.
Gold Coast to
Charleville,
Winton,
Birdsville,
Boulia,
Longreach,
Blackall, and home.
Around 8-9 days of doing nothing but showing off the country to an o/s visitor.
But the big difference this time is that there's no
camping involved. Staying in cabins and motels. Expensive, but oh the luxuary.
No real 4wding involved so no
camping and minimum recovery and spares to be carried.
I know a few of you will be in those areas, so keep an eye out for a couple of blokes in a white 80 series with a big aerial on the back.
Say gooday or give us a wave.
Whatever you do, don't expect the passenger to speak much English..he's a Kiwi :))

Are you sure its only 8-9 days, maybe you could stretch it out for about three weeks and head south when you get to
Birdsville and bring your NZ friend to the Flinders for the national gathering. :)
Cheers Luke

Luke, I've considered the possibilities, believe me. I was thinking of coming as someone else, but I couldnt find anyone that I liked that little :))
Vizi has a fixed flight for his return, and a couple of businesses to run when he gets back.

Footy,
A better way to go with less backtracking would be;
Gold Coast,
Charleville,
Quilpie,
Windorah,
Birdsville,
Bedourie,
Boulia,
Winton,
Longreach,
Barcaldine,
Emerald,
Springsure, Moura,
Miles, and home.
Lots of things to do and see along the way.
Lark Quarry west of
Winton, Qantas museum and Stockmans HOF at
Longreach,
Gemfields around
Anakie and
Rubyvale, open cut Coal mines at Moura.
(and you might even find a sheep station to buy along the way.:))))
There is good grazing around Morella (between
Winton and
Longreach)

Stu, I typed
Winton and meant
Windorah of course. So my route is pretty much as you suggested. We'll try and take a peek at some of the things mentioned, but we're already commited to an average of 500k a day. Blasted plane schedules, should be banned.

500k's...That's not far, you should be able to do that before lunch, and have the afternoon to look about.
