Hi, Has anyone read the book No Roads Go By, about a woman somewhere east of the Flinders. Do they know where it was, how to get there, if its possible. If its through Frome Downs I imagine it isn't. Has anyone been there?

No haven't read the book.
There is no public access through Frome Downs to NSW these days. In fact there is no pubic access to NSW from
Yunta to Mt Hopeless on the Strzelecki.
Maybe the story is about a local anywhere east of the Flinders.
If you can quote a short passage from the book describing and area I may be able to help.
Cheers

Willem, You are a good replyer! Thanks for that. Have looked in the forward. "Lake Elder station of the book is now absorbed in two
ruins, Muloowurtina and Quinyambie" Is that a help? Seems it was run as a catle place , split, and now could be part of something else. Frome Downs even.

Mooloowantana(pronounced Mu-lu-wa-tanna) as it is spelt these days, lies north of the
Gammon Ranges on the road between Balacanoona and Mt Hopeless. It is pretty sparse country out there with lots of gibber. But when it rains it greens up quickly for cattle to be fattened on.

Beastie,
From my maps there are Old Quinyambie
Bore and Old Quinyambie (
ruins) on the SA/NSW border approx 30.213743S and 140.994418E although other searches put Quinyambie on the NSW side of the border, who knows :))))))

That fits Al. " In 1912 the SA Govt. put down a number of artesian bores, good flows resulting........Mr and Mrs White went there in 1915 and built the first and only
homestead in that area" It was good for cattle but "drefts" badly with overstocking, especially round waterholes. "The
homestead.....after being empty, was so embanked with driftsand
the entrance had to be made through upper part of the windows" I will go to larger scale maps and see what I can find.

On an old 1884 map that I have, Quinyambie extended into NSW from roughly close to the Moorabie
homestead (app 31.20 141.00) and then about 40Kms to the east and down to about 30.47 141.00 in a bit of a dogleg around 30.40 141.16.
These are only rough coords, but close. Quinyambie bordered with Corona, which was also Kidmans.

Thanks everyone. I will check with Kidmans and look at the possibility of finding/visiting the
ruins. . Reading the posts I can only say thanks again for your replies and am amazed at the way the
forum has worked.

Beastie, not sure if it is on Frome Downs or Quinyambie.
Quinyambie is still run by Kidmans.
Maybe worth a phone call to Quinyambie if your interested.
It's in the book under Quinyambie.
We see the vehicles from Quinyambie in town frequently with SK on the door.
