Hi
Has anybody travelled the GRR recently and could you recommend any
camping places along the way from the
Kununurra end.
Thanks in advance. Bill

Not sure what you mean - perhaps gets the Camps4 book which lists lots of
places... the GRR is pretty long... and there are many
camping places - with full facilities through to
bush camping...
Near the K end, here's a couple:
you pays your money and you can
camp at
El Questro... nice facilities; expensive for everything except the
camping; great gorges and springs
Home Valley - wonderful
camping on the side of the
Pentecost river (if you are not paranoid about the big croc that lives there ;-)
Cheers
Andrew.

Hi Andrew
Thanks for that info as it is very helpful.I am more for
bush camping but will take in what you have given and look at all that is around.I would just like to
camp somewhere remote to chill out for a while and soak up the atmosphere.
Cheers, Bill & Brenda

The locals used to
camp on the north side of the Pentacost crossing. Plenty of bush sites all down that way and u can fish to hearts content but i think its fly fishing no bait allowed. Lovely spot with the dingoes howling in the night and the chamberlain mountains in the hinterland. If you have a bent for the macabre you can look for the killing tree that carries the scar from one of the mad German's buttlets. I never went to El's place so cant advise on that.

there is a road off through the bush - perhaps 1 km along the road after the Pentecost crossing on the right where you can go out onto the river. Mud flat area... a bit boggy at times and tidal, but there are a number of
camping areas there.
You are at eye level with the crocs though... although I don't know how far from the river they stray.
Also on the Kun side of the crossing is the
Cockburn Loop road and there are some
bush camping spots along there, including some that are quite a long way along and up off the river level a bit.
Cheers
Andrew.

Hi Owen
Thanks for your input of info.North of the Pentecost sounds good. Between you and Andrew I have enough to go on and take the GRR. Staying a couple of days in Kununarra then will move on.

Bill,
There are good
camping spots beside the
Gibb River which is just a few kms north of the
Gibb River Road/
Kalumburu Road
junction.
A couple of the stations with campgrounds I can recommend are
Ellenbrae,
Drysdale River, Mt Elizabeth and Charnley River.
Manning Gorge campground is large, roomy, has
toilets and cold
water showers.
The campground at Silent Springs (
Bell Gorge) is very good and if you get in there early you can get your own
camping spots beside
Bell Creek. They looked great but unfortunately I've never got there in time to grab one!!
Windjana Gorge NP campground is excellent and a really beautiful place to
camp.
Hope some of those are helpful to you.
Best wishes
Viv

When in Kunna, call into the
Visitors Centre and buy the GRR booklet it has all the tracks etc on it. It's easier to handle than a large map in the car.
