Hi!
My wife and I are going to NSW for 3 weeks (end of October, November). We would like to know if this route is realistic:
Sydney - Mungo N.P. - Kinchega N.P. -
Broken Hill -
Mutawintji N.P. - Warrumbungle N.P. -
New England N.P. -
Barrington Tops N.P. - Blue Mountains N.P. -
Sydney. This is our first time in Australia and we are not used to such great distances. Our plan is to see different national parks in this area. Can anyone suggest us which parks are the "must see" and which we can skip. You can suggest also other parks not mentioned above.
Which option is better: to take 4wd car or 4wd camper? Which rental company do you recommend?
Many thanks in advance!

Bipol, I have just come home a few hours ago from Mungo and Kinchega.
The best way to see and understand about Mungo is with one of the guides. There is a company from
Wentworth who go to Mungo everyday and they are good guides.
Kinchega hasn't got any guides there and is a nice place to
camp near the Darling along the River Drive. There is a lot of aboriginal history there, but you would learn more at Mungo.
Mutawintji National Park is another one that you really have to do with one of the local aboriginal guides to get into the best
places.
Check the net for the days and times of the tours, and I would suggest even ringing the
Broken Hill NPWS before you go to Mutawinji just to make sure the tour is on, otherwise I feel you could waste a trip out there.
Are you going to take a few weeks to do all of this?
One day is enough time in Mungo to do the tour and have a look at sunset on
the walls of China.
It is a about 4 hours drive to Kinchega from there.
It is a bit hard to suggest more without knowing how you are travelling and if you are
camping, or wanting accommodation.

The
Ranger guided tours at Mutawinji are done on Wednesdays.
You can get a lot of information on Mungo, Kinchega and Mutawinji National parks from the
Visitor Information Office in
Broken Hill. Phone them on 1300 557 036.

plpol,
Warrumbungle NP..... my eyes just glazed over! A truly magnificent
park!
Camp Blackman is the pick of the camps, very nice!! There is much to see and do there, and also right next door is Siding Springs Observatory, which is worth a look but they don't (or didn't when we were there last year) do night tours. There is a place called Skywatch at Coonabarabran, 35 klm's from Warrumbungles that does an impressive night watch through telescopes, very entertaining and worth the time and $$ to visit!!
Blue Mountains NP has a lot to offer, as has
Barrington Tops, to see it all in 3 weeks may be asking a bit, but there is always next time!!
Have a good trip!!
Cheers
Brian

blpol,
The trip you suggest will give you a taste of the variety of landscapes in NSW. It is do-able but it would be a very quick look
You could spend that three weeks just in the parks out near
Broken Hill. Or you could spend it in the
New England area or in the
Sydney and Blue Mountains region. .
If this is to be the first of many visits then your trip will let you know the kind of landscape you like best and then you could explore that on a subsequent trip.
You do not say where you are coming from but I am pretty sure that if you are not used to the distances involved then the landscape which will be the most unusual to you will be that in far west NSW, out near
Broken Hill. When I know of people visiting from Europe I encourage them to see that part of the country because it is so different.
