Hi Folks,
Just had a good, big offer on our
Ballina house. We have outgrown a fixed waterfront early retirement (boring) place and want to see more of this island whilst we can. The sale/price will be finalised tomorrow with a buyer proposed 90 day settlement.
Whilst we like
Bargara,
Bundaberg Qld, At this moment in time we don't have a purchase on the horizon and 90 days puts us in that pre-Christmas busy busy period and hot. We know from looking that caravan parks around us on the NSW North Coast, that they are at a premium at this time. Furniture can be stored but where would the wife and I and the pets head for over the Christmas school holiday break.... not necessarily on the coast.
Whenpush comes to shove, "What do the permanent on the roads members go in the silly busy XMAS period?"
We DO NOT have family members in Australia to fall back on. We have a 17 foot caravan but not off road, a 4WD and 2 small dogs.
Quick advice would help us. Come on Motherhen!!!
Regards
SHI'er and Mrs SKI'er

Perhaps if you called at the Big 4 caravan
Park (or other group parks) in
Ballina they may be able to check other parks in their group, for vacancy in period you need.
Other suggestion would be to contact those up north (hot) but not on the coast where most families head for over christmas.

ZukscooterX90 & Pedro,
I first thought you were having a go. West is pretty much all there is from
Ballina. but Other posts suggest west and west just across the Dividing range until the pressure on CP's gets back to normal when the school holiday peiod finishes.
Thanks Pedro for thinking outside the square. I know that the loyaly programme in pCP lets you allow them to book ahead for you but never thought to see if the loyalty programme may allow it to see if there were block vacancies.
Having said that gentlemen, I took another line of solution and at the sugeestion of a couple of other posts began to research a couple of monthsor so in Tasmania, Pity that the
Sydney Ferry link has been discontinued.
We haven't seen Tas in 10 years and with just short of a million dollars in kitty we may be able to survive for a while. but I am sure that the first winter would kill me. I left England 35 years ago to escape the winters
Thanks again

G'day SKI'er, Yeah man! I understand and empathise with you, my wife and I sold up, settlement date was January this year. Since then we've done a 4 month farm sit, traveled (read slowly) through regions we've been to before but saw so much more this time.
Made some friends and will probably keep seeing them on the road in the future.
We've rented a house for six months to stay around where we came from( we both have short term jobs whenever we are here).
We are heading off to Tasmania for a month next March, on our return we'll make our way to the
Kimberley via where ever the road takes us. I have worked in WA before and I'm sure I'll be able to pick up a bit of work if need be, my wife is a Div 1 Nurse so she'll be in demand I'm sure, it's just her registration to take care of(the sooner the 'governments' agree on national registration for nurses, teachers, vehicle and licenses and many others the better off we'll all be). Sorry digress, so far we have not missed owning a 'house' and to be honest with you we never want to own one again.
We have a Patrol and van with all the necessary additives plus our own power supply so we are happy, oh yes we have our two dogs with us and they love it, camps book 4 is a great asset. Incidentally in our travels to and from the farm sit approx 3,500klms I think we spent $15.00 on accommodation
SKI'er as for furniture storage, we did not bother one day before settlement we had a great garage sale, sold the lot. In the house we are renting we went to our local op-second hand- St Vinnies and bout somee really nice furniture......I feel another garage sale coming on in a few months..........don't be put off, people will always buy something

Gday SKIer, I agree with mightyQ, Head to Tassie. summer is very reasonable and quite frankly, it is the ducks-guts. Awesome in nearly every aspect, people are wonderful and after a bit of time checking it out there it makes a great start point for any other travels.
Additionally, check out the TASTE OF TASMANIA (
Hobart) and FESTIVALE (
Launceston) - both top gigs!
Have a good one wherever you go. Cheers!

SKI'er, As you you may have read my reply, it was quite late, after discussing this with my wife there were a few things left out:-
we have followed the harvest trail via the net to keep up-dated of where work will be over the following months - a good source of income and an opportunity to meet lots of people. If you are up to it physically lots of different picking, grapes, cherries, apples, pears....etc
As far as selling the acquired furniture form the various op-shops and St Vinnies more than likely we will give it all back to them.

Thanks MightyQ and Beb E.
We settled the deal today and won't have a roof just before December. We can always rebuy if the fear of no roof gets to us
The furniture is quality stuuf so we will be storing the majority of it but the clear out/reduction will do us good.
Thanks for the mention of Farmsitters. I have had an application form for some time, sent it off today along with the fee.
Will check out empress costs.
Thank you

SKI'er, I'm not sure about the(or any of) Farm sitters sites our sit came through this web site(ExplorOz). We have had other offers to sit again and this has come through word of mouth, no money has passed hands. Please be careful in what you
sign up for, we've heard of people signing up, paying their money and keep paying it yearly only never to have a placement.
To go to Tasmania we used a non-profit organisation that gave us a deal that was almost 50% less than what I had tried for, I have no affiliations with this company either personal or professional.

Thanks Andy,
Our boredom with retirement and our house has been for sale for some time.
We buy the RM William mag "Outback" and Farmsitters.com.au have advertised in it for many many issues. I contacted them for their enrollment form some months ago and it just sat in thr "pending" tray. It cost $100 a year to be part of their database.
At worst nothing will come of the investment and I will advise the EO
membership accordingly. At best it may just be the break and new exprience we are looking for and I will be able to sing its praises via the
forum.
.Thanks for your concerns

After a good big offer on the house, providing it all goes through, go wherever you want to or if unsure about that, wherever your heart takes you. You can choose from coastal, mountain, desert, lowland, highland, wet land, dry land, big city, small country, house block, small acreage, farm size acreage, house, town-house, villa, bungalow, flat, apartment, caravan, motor-home and so on. Perhaps you need to use your imagination and decide where you want to go - not where everyone else - with little or no knowledge of your lifestyle preferences - suggests.

Hi DIO,
Deal done today. End of Nov we have no roor except the CVan. Where we buy next will be determined months maybe years down the track and we don't need help in this.
I was really llooking for insight into where people who are on the road permanently head for, when the coast CP's are full of XMAS holiday makers or where rules re dogs change for that period to not allowed.

Too easy but if the dart hit
Ballina and you simply headed off you would have to be lucky get a berth in a CP in our town and certainly if the have pets.
I was seeking guidance in where people permanently
on the roadget by over the Christmas holiday period.
Thanks

What's the big deal about the coast - too many people. Head up onto the Great Dividing Range - lots cooler and lots less people. Lots to see and do too. Anywhere from
Guyra north - if you can't find heaps of nice
places to stay and interesting
places to visit and things to do then you're too bloody hard to please!

Thanks Moose,
We had forgotten to think look closer to home and on the Dividing Range. We have had some good trips to
places like Inverell, Glenn Innes
Guyra and the like.
Sorry to sound neurotic but we are ready to embark on a lifetime adventure except that the timing of the sale puts us without a roof, a peronal bolt hole for the first time in our combined life years (120) at the busiest time of the year for Caravan Parks.
No we are not hard to please and in a years time I/we will feel embarrassed about the anxiety I/we are displaying now. I suppose this is the wobbly bit when first riding a bike.
Thanks
SKI'er
