Got a nail in our car tyre yesterday (not our Hilux) and only noticed it this afternoon, thought I would pump the tyre back up and take it to the local tyre place tomorrow and they could repair it there and then.

It was an ideal time to try out our new ubute ARB hi volume air compressor mounted in the Hilux to pump the tyre up, we only upgraded the compressor the other day from one of the smaller ARB compressors.

Anyway got Lyn to connect the new air compressor up as she needs to know how to use the compressor and tyre inflater as she goes away by her self often and may need it one day.

Lyn turned the compressor on, connected it to the flat tyre and waited and we waited and waited.

About 5 minutes later with the compressor still running and air going into the tyre, Lyn made the remark that this new hi volume air compressor is SH%T.

My reply was Oh you haven't got the tyre inflater fitted right (always blame the operator never the tool), so I went and connected it air was going in and told lyn it wasn't on right.

Well another couple of minutes went by with the air compressor running and still no tyre going up....thought there may be a problem with the compressor after all.

Could hear air going in so I ran my hand around the inside of the tyre and guess what, we must of drove on it when it was flat and torn the inside side wall.

New tyre at $540 a tyre and only 3 other vehicle use this size, so went to the boot to use the spare and we have special lock nuts....the rims are worth about $1400 each hence the special lock nuts.

Could not find the lock nut key anywhere, the car has always been serviced by the dealer and is 14 months old with 14000k on the clock, it got it's 12500k service back in June and we asked them to rotate the wheels.......so some mechanic forgot to put the lock nut key back.

These lock nuts are tamper proof ones and can not be removed with out the key.....you can't hammer a socket on these ones as the outer spins.

Looks like the dealer is going to have to remove them and get us a new set..can't wait till Monday.

So if I only had a tyre pressure monitor fitted, it only enforces the need of one on our Hilux now.

So anyone going to ask how my weekend was?

Richard

I was thinking the same thing 5 rims at $1400 each and 5 tyres at $540 each. $10000 for rims and rubber YEP I can understand locknut's and a VERY good insurance company.

A mate of mine hit a rock on the road and did his rim and tyre and that cost him $1300 and he was less than impressed.

At least now I feel better about my $200.00 tyres and bleep ty rims.

Although the look on your face when you found the hole in the tyre and it was not the compressor ........ hmmmmm wife its a hole, SO it was NOT me hmmmmmm my wife would have given it to me lol lol questioning her abilities.

Got caught with not being able to get our spare tyre lock off too.
Always take it off before a trip. Only use it around town for the honest people. But then I am only running $20.00 rims. Correct that, got my last two for nothing at the dump. Nobody wants nissan 16" rims any more.

Hi Olcoolone, always and i mean always check to see if they have out your lock nut in!!!!

Now a good story, i lived at cessnock for a time and these two car's pulled up one with big flashy rims and a flat tyre, i walked out and had a chat with the guys and he had the lock nuts i did, so after he checked his car out for his lock nut and couldn't find his i said i will go and get mine, bang straight on and we undid his wheel, now that was lucky, he was from sydney too going to the vine yards for the day!

Just one other thing, get a spare lock nut key.

I hope they replace it all for you!

Good luck.

With the lock nut they came with a second key and there are 1600 combinations.

Thinking if the dealer lost one there must be a spare somewhere.

Well we searched for about 2 hours on Sunday night, searched the car, the house, the shed and even went down to our workshop and had a look........not a thing and Lyn kept saying I can see the red plastic box they are in but don't know where it is.

After searching our workshop we went home and this time I looked in side the car and Lyn looked in the boot.

Well you would not believe it! When we were down at our workshop looking, someone must of broken into our house, disarmed the alarm, found the car keys and returned the red plastic box with not one but both the lock nut keys in it and placed it into the boot.......Lyn spent all of about 20 seconds before she found where this person placed the red box.

Anyway phoned around to see if we could get a tyre and guess what........only 4 in Australia.

Regards Richard

P.S Got an email this morning informing us that a close business friend was driving home on Saturday night when some pleb in a car being pursued by the Police for doing burn outs ran into our friends car, our friend got out and was bashed and stabbed in the back by this pleb puncturing a lung and is in hospital. This pleb got back into his car and took off only to ram another car further down the road and bring down a pole before Police apprehended him with Capsicum spray........ now I thought I had a bad. weekend!

Richard,

Heard of that incident on the weekend news and my thoughts were, why bother with the Capsicum Spray when the Police have a perfectly good GUN.

They should have shot the "Richard Head" after the first display of resisting arrest. It is pretty obvious he was drugged to the eyeballs and wouldn't have even felt the bullet.

Now, we have to pay for his "rehabilitation" as well as for the considerable repairs to the Police Car.

Yeah know what you mean, We thought the same when we saw it on the nightly news not knowing who it was.

He faced court today and said he has a mental illness and he was high on drugs and that he has been to jail a fair few times and it didn't help him and he needs other help.

He even asked for bail.

At least we will be visiting him in hospital.....much better place then a funeral home.
