HI again all,
Are there any members that live in or near Springsure?
I have accepted a position with the Council up there and start on the 15th.
I guess I finally get to be a banana bender after all these years LOL
Regards
Dave

Kev,
We searched for months for a quality product. Alot of the ones on ebay and thru camping shops are made from the crappy chinese canvas and don't last long.
So we settled on Central Coast Canvas in NSW. His website doesn't do his product any justice at all. It was around the 5k mark with the mods we wanted. We were happy to pay for quality. He will make whatever you want and in whatever colour combo as well.

Thanks Dave,

I wonder how he would go doing a top for an 8' x 5' trailer

How hard is it to go back to a box trailer??
Is the top very heavy

Kev,
he will make one for whatever you have.
My bed base on struts has been made so that I can't remove it but loading is no prob with the tilt and the opening tailgate. I still get a full load of wood in it.

If you get the hinges to all slide in the same direction you can remove it (mine has 2 going 1 way and 1 going the other) but it may move around a little bit on corrugations whereas mine can't slide only tilt.

I think it would be around 350kg but it is a big tent. He does from 13ft to 17ft as normal at about $100 per extra foot from 13ft. With an 8x5 you could probably go to 20ft but it would be a bitch to fold when wet.

Dave,

He's quick with his quotes :))

For a 16' to suit the 8x5 it's $4 900 plus the $1600 for the annex walls.

Sounds good.

Dave,

Heading for the big smoke :))

What position did you get?? I am still hunting for a Building Certifier position in QLD but they seem to be a bit scarce due to the amalgamations.
I suppose I have 3.5 months to find one though. There is a rumour that Roma will be advertising for one soon so I won't be to far away LOL

Hi Kev,
good to see you have a real truck now. LOL
I am taking on the Job Supervisors role and by the sound of it alot of the old timers are going to retire when the amalgamations happen so there will be jobs aplenty.
Mate are you qualified to work as a ganger or as a plant operator?
The grader ops are on 70-80k with OT due to staff shortages.

scarce? Councils in several parts of Qld will jump at the chance of gaining another qualified Certifier.... It depends on where you want to live.

Give me a yell if you want some positive leads in Central Qld.

Andrew

Yeah I would agree, I'm in one of the SE QLD Councils and from what I've heard they can't get enough certifiers. A lot aren't even advertising anymore simply because they weren't getting applicants. Take your pick, ring them up and see what they've got available if you haven't already! :-)

Me on the other hand am looking like heading Rural somewhere next year so I may be in contact with you Andrew if that's ok? My better half is looking like being transfered to do her Rural service and I'll obvioulsy be going too. I'm in Planning so I'm hoping there's just a big a skills shortage out west/north for Planners & Planning Compliance as there is here! :-)

Cheers
Scoey!

Andrew,

In saying scarce I mean they don't bother advertising anymore and it is a case of contacting each and every council LOL
My father is one of the old timers retiring but I don't want to live where he is, I like my space and don't want to be constantly told that my way is not how he did it.
I also have to be wary as to where I go in regards to climate and health services for SWMBO due to her MS.

Dave,

A real truck alright, I just wish I could see it in the flesh. It is heading for Al's this week for the conversion.
I have too many quals to list but Plant Op is not one of them LOL

Yeah,
12 I think from memory in the shire including Carnarvon.

I heard from Mum the other day that they may close Carnarvon due to flood damage and the cost of maintenance.

Carnarvon Gorge is now open

Carnarvon Gorge Press release

Looks like they only closed the main walking track for repairs and maintenance from the floods.

I was in the gorge in mid August - there had been some flood damage but not much. A lot of work going on to protect the various areas from unthinking individuals. No indication that it would be closed but it's a bit of a bugger that you can't bush camp in this section of the park except during Easter and the QLD school holiday periods. Takarakka is a very good alternative though with good facilities and a semblance of bush camping.

The other sections of Carnarvon NP are worth checking out as well . My favourite is Salvator Rosa which is 160 km SW of Springsure. Mount Moffatt is also good , access is via Injune. Others are Ka Ka Mundi and Goodliffe . The road from Salvator to Tambo via Mt Playfair Rd is a great drive

I could be wrong, but I think I saw an article in last weekends Courier Mail (Bris) that a brumby cull of 4000 horses out of estimated 12000 in the National Park area, took place recently.
Could it be that they closed the trails so no cameras of the shooting was spread in the press?
Cheers
