Just got back from 1st big trip , melb,
wentworth,
depot glen,cam corner,innaminka,
tibooburra,
white cliffs,mutawinji,wilcania,
menindee,mungo then home melb.
So many great
places and not enough time so i think i will go back next year. We went in one vehical myself a mate and our 2 12 yr old boys, and the biggest suprise was Wilcania was a fantastic place ,we stayed there o/night next day met plenty of the locals ,who we found treated us great and we were even invited to visit one of the town elders just out of the town wich we did ,and brought lots of his didjeredoos and other things.
He told us when we come back he will take us out catch ema, goanna and have a feast.
Cant wait
Grant

yeah that's great! got you hook line and sinker, sold you some things, got your money, i wonder where the cash is now? ever thought that they might have worked you over? I was once asked you got a $ for a cup of coffee ? I said it cost more than a $ mate.. response ''got $2 then'' but anyway if it was all good for you then its all ok isn't it
every body is out to get you no matter where you are
sorry maybe I'm a little cynical as everyone is your ''brother'' when they want to be
I'm glad you enjoyed your trip

I had a chat with the local business people a couple of years ago.
They were telling me that the only way the town was going to survive was to attract tourists.
They were
well aware of the town's reputation and weren't terribly hopeful.
I'm so pleased that you had a great time there.

Great to hear Grant.
Treasure those relationships - and follow through on the plans for your next visit. It will help in a small way to build trust, which has been broken over years of mistreatment, and must surely be a great education for 2 12 yo's.
If you can take another group with you to broaden the circle, all the better.
Cheers
Andrew off with the hospitable
Oak Valley mob soon.

My first outback trip was almost the same but I started in Melb and came back to
Sydney (Home)
Yes you are right. A lot of oldtimers out there say "stay away from Wilcania &
Bourke etc", but I have had several trips out there and loved them all. Andrew I think mentioned the survival aspect and Ii have to agree with it.
Stewart at
Bourke tourist centre is like many out there who are passionate about getting people to come into these town and see the changes being made, the barriers are coming down and yes there are still some old ways remaining on bothe sides of the fence but they are getting fewer.
Get out there, its a big and wonderful area. And so are the towns.
Colin.

Sorry to say, that
Wilcannia is the only town we have ever visited where I left the engine running in order to make a hasty exit if required.

I think
Walgett is up there to nothing like a boarded up main street after dark to think that your are some sort of ''war zone'' but then drive just up the road to
the ridge and its so totally different maybe some off these ''outback travellers'' should get out off their cars and spend a week with the police and prison officers on the missions and settlements to see the true facts of life

Glad you enjoyed the area Grant. Thomas (my 7yo) and I were just out there.
I never get sick of the region and find something new every time I'm there. Perhaps we crossed paths?
Cheers
