I have just purchased Nokia 6120 Phone & got free Uniden GNS8365 BT GPS from Harvey Norman I , have tried connecting the bluetooth & keeps disconnecting, read about this problem in recent forum, and one reply was from a person that managed to pair using different codes, I tried what was suggested, and still no luck, could that person reply again and tell me step by step how they got it to work, or has anyone else succeeded, it is very frustrating!!

I sympathise with your feelings on this thread. I couldn't get it to pair with my O2 XDA IIs either.

Ive got a Nokia N70 and have a Globalsat BT 338 bluetooth GPS and dont have any trouble.
Sometimes the phone takes a bit to see the GPS or vice versa but doesnt ever disconnect.
I paired it with the good old 00000 and it works with the phone and computer and my laptop and my camera.
Maybe the Uniden is no good.
Try a different make and see how you go.
Where are u, anywhere near Brissy, if so u can try mine.

Graham has kind of beat me to it, but after reading your post I decided to try connecting my Globalsat BT-338 GPS receiver with the Nokia 6120.

No problem at all, so I believe your problem is with the Uniden 8365.

Unfortunately some equipment just refuses to "play ball".

The reason I originally bought the Globalsat BT-338 was because I couldn't establish bluetooth connectivity between a Dell Axim PDA and a Haicom 4in1 holder with bluetooth GPS. I could get the receiver to connect via the physical pin connection using com1 but not via bluetooth. In frustration I chucked the Haicom GPS receiver and replaced it with the BT-338 which has performed flawlessly.

Now, what application is used on, or from the 6120, to display your location once the GPS is talking to it?

I too have a 6120 and while I haven't tried connecting to a GPS I do have trouble getting it to connect to a Supertooth II handsfree unit.
The Supertooth connects automatically with my work phone a Nokia 6230 with no probs but has to be physically connected to the 6120 every time. I've been told that there are different "generations" of bluetooth and devices should be of the same "generation" to enable full compatibility.
Maybe the device needs a later software if available?

Shouldnt need it the newer version is backwardly compatible or supposed to be. I mix and match without problems.

Wasn't there a thread a couple of months ago which concluded that these two particular devices simply won't work together although each of them works perfectly well with other gear?

I bought the Nokia 6120 classic and the Uniden 8365 GPS, I had the disconnecting problem at the beginning. Now they both work together perfectly, I can even use voice dial. The reason for the problem at the beginning is that when I did the paring, I use any pin code. If you read the instruction carefully, the default pin code for paring the GPS to the phone is "0000"and the default pin code for pairing the phone to the GPS is "000".

After I repaired them with the default pin code, now they work perfectly. Every time when I start the engine, the GPS will turn on and connected to my phone straight away and never have disconnecting problem any more.

Hi Paul,
I eventually spent about 2 hours on the phone to Uniden and with the assistance from Harvey Norman discovered that whilst they both have bluetooth, they are not compatible. I have sent an email and asked if it will be put on their list to do, but after a week, I haven't had a reply.
HN's tried the bluetooth with a different phone and it worked perfectly.
I eventually swapped the Uniden with my daughter's Mio C520 and it connected immediatley and I made a call. However, I have not been able to do it again. I guess the phone is so new that the GPS people haven't done their bit to match it up.

One thing is to make sure your phone is "seeable" before pairing and then after you have them paired hide it again so others cant randomly hook into it.
4 zeros should pair most things.
The BT338 takes about 15 secs to re-pair with my N70 after I delete and set it up again.
A great little unit, even works in my pocket or the glovebox.
The new model BT 559 is possibly even better.
Also have a Haicom USB unit and chucked it as it dropped out going under overpasses on the highway.
Bluetooth is just that and theoretically it is all compatible. Only difference is Vers1 and Vers2 which is supposed to be backwardly compatible. Admittedly not everything likes everything else.

In a lot of cases the problem can be the most common problem with computers.
The connection between the chair and the mouse. LOL from a retired computer tech.

Thanks Andrew, I tried doing that and it still disconnects as soon as you try to make a call, I was hoping that the original member who posted this could contact me and we could sort out what I am doing wrong. Cheers !

I think part of the reason these disconnect when u try to make a call is that some of these GPS equipped Nokia phones are NOT TRUE GPS
They use what is called AGPS and it uses the GSM network to assist it to tell where it is.
Not entirely sure how it works but there are threads on it if you search AGPS.
Logically if it is using the network to locate and you try to use it for a call it will disconnect from the bluetooth as it is then doing something else and cant do 2 at once.
One theory anyway that someone will probably shoot holes in.
Also when pairing you should put the same code into both ends of a connection. The Bt338 doesnt need a code, just enter 0000 in the phone.
