I can't remember the exact model I owned but it was a 5 door 'Estate' with a fuel injected G16B engine.
Great vehicle, nice to drive, fuel efficient.
They do eat spark-plug leads. They were breaking down forever and I was replacing them every 15000k.
I had a head gasket go that was easily fixed. Check when the timing belt was last replaced and budget for a new one if no records.

My daughter had a 1992 Vitara when she was doing Ag Science at
Melbourne Uni. She had a carburettor model with a soft top. She thought the soft top would be "cool" but someone nicked her CD's and it was very noisy. Try to steer her away from a soft top. It was reliable and she used it a few times off road. The only problem we had was needing to have the radiator cleaned out. It overheated when 4wding around
Walhalla. No problems after that. Good luck with your car hunting.

We have a vitara 94 as our bay hacker & my 14old drives it around the fire
trails near home, It is a great little car & as most Suzuki's don't realy have many problems
things i have noticed with ours
1) the front diff is a weak point so check it
2) the front end, check it over as this seams to be the weak point
3) the sills rust out behind the PVC dressing
4) check under the mats as the floor area is a rust point
5) if its a soft top don't be worried if its torn a complete new top is about $490 (from Nolan's in
Sydney) we also picked up a fibreglass hard top for $400 2nd hand
3) if possible go for a later model with fuel injection (ours is the carby model & it does take a while to warm up in winter)
4) Tyres our a size, that is not a common & not a lot to choose from but take about 130klms to wear out
5) But remember it is a very short & narrow wheel base & on a slippery road there is no room for error
good luck

Not sure if this will be of help:
I the local paper I noticed this one advertised.
It reads:
Suzuki Vitara Soft Top.
91 Manual 193.000kms
Immaculate condition. Complete Mechanical over haul.
PWR Steering / Windows. Near new tyres.
Bull Bar Reg 2/08 AF53EV
$5,250 ono 02 65627563 a/h
If interested let me know and I might be able to have a look at it for you.
Unless you can organise someone.
Cheers
If not I have a 98 Model RAV4 5 door wagon that we are going to sell.
It has every extra that was made including a polished alloy Bull Bar.
