Looking for advice as wanting to tow van from Tamworth to Macksville.

Wondering which to take either via Walca or via Armidale/Bellingen

Road conditions & advice will be appreciated.

As a female I am bit nervous on narrow sloping roads

This is a great site - I hope I can contribute too

From memory, the Armidale/Bellingen route is very steep comming down from Dorrigo, although it's been some time since I last travelled that way.

The easiest & quickest is Walca to Port Macquarie then straight up the Hwy through Kempsey to Macksville

Thanks

How steep and narrow the road- not the most confident tower.

The road is a bit windy but reasonably wide, just take your time & drive to the conditions.

I regularly travel Tamworth to the coast via Bellingen towing 2.5 ton van. No problem with road.

Thanks John
your truck & van a lot bigger than mine

I have a Mazda table top & 16' pop top but worried about the slopes with no rails - looking down just daunts me

We live a little further north than you, have frequently been down (and up) both ways towing the van.
The Walcha/Wauhope way is slower but a wider road. The Dorrigo/Bellingen section has 12km. of steep narrow road with plenty of heavy vehicles to contend with.
My recommend would be through Walcha, plus a shorter distance for you.
Watch for the speed cameras on the Pacific highway.

Thanks

Perhaps the safest for me is the Walcha road

Actually live in Lake Macquarie area but will be in Tamworth and need to go across to Macksville

we went through armidale to nymboida through the same country last year, it was a bit nerve racking as a passenger who hates ranges but it was ok.
I have family in the area so have been through often, the trick with the loggers is to politely call them up on the radio to find out if they're in the area and to make them aware you are too.
Be careful of them as they rally drive those roads and there are plenty of blind corners.
