Reading through some past forums and noticed that there were a few forumites inparticular, not naming any, that have really ticked quite a few people off......and they are NOT members.....the ones I noticed anyway....

Is there a way of "black listing" people or giving people a ranking that if they are 'below the yellow' line then they can be gooooone!!??? Especially non members.....

fair enough peoples opinion differ, we see it every day but this was different.....

One in particular was just in for an "Im right and your all B^&*(Y morons" slagging match...

Laura

ps...heading to Tamworth tonight / morning and tenterfield tomorro night...then into Toowoomba.....

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAVE A GOOD BEER!!

It's more saying that we have a tendency to see our own (and those of the people we relate to) behaviour as acceptable but reject those who do not adhere to our view of the world. I guess sometimes we're right and sometimes we're wrong when we do that - such is human nature :) And without that diversity both daily life and this forum would be the poorer.

Likewise; have a good Xmas and New Year people - may it be better than the old year.

Laura,
I don't think there is a lot you can do, by highlighting the behaviour you give these people what they want, attention. My opinion, been on here a while, get used to "the element" and just respond and deal with the usuals, got to watch Truckster he's an initiator................... ho hum ho hum............. Merry Xmas Bruce......

Have a good one Laura, ride the storm, the good ones hang around. Not to sure about this Harding guy either, Merry Xmas Mike.......

Your right Footloose. Maybe the Explore Oz team have relaxed the rules too much. The forum rules clearly outline the rules, and maybe it is time they clamped down, and intervened. My whole family like to participate, and some of the Friday funnies, for instance, are inappropriate for younger participants. Let's not have a ratbag minority stuff it up for all of us, much like everything else has been.

Totally agree, it's as if all common sense flies out of the window just because it's Friday.
I rarely post any jokes, as I know that some will fall down laughing and some will be offended. My sense of humour is not for everyone, and I recognize that by not posting too many jokes.
Call me a wowser if you must, but I feel that some members of our society still have to be protected from such adult stuff where possible.
Having said that, most make me laugh...but there again I'm not a young kid....mostly :))))

Fred, True to a point I guess.....but you can't protect your family from the big bad world all the rest of their lives. There is always the option of the "OFF" button.......I find I have to turn the UHF off when I get close to any cities for this reason.

Basically, it;s a case of "if it's too hot in the kitchen, then get out".... Cheers, Roachie

Coincidentally Stefan, you posted my list of the most entertaining contributors.

I understand your list was tongue in cheek, but one man's beer is another man's poison.

There's only one or two I find irritating but throughout my life, so far, a real lot of people have found me annoying so, people in grass houses etc.

Also one of my faults is to over-use condescending platitudes.

The annoying thing about some of the replies when a question is asked is the smart (read sarcastic) comments given. Not all are as brilliant as others and ask to try and improve their knowledge thus becoming better 4WDers in the process. If somebody asks a question which annoys you don't bother replying, thus wasting your time and bleep off potential members who may then decide not to further participate in this forum. We are all losers then!
If someone does not know the answer it is not a stupid question. However, some research should be done by doing a search before asking questions. Again new users may not be fully aware of how to search effectively and some guidance would be in order rather than abuse and ridicule.

I never really have a problem with people not searching before they ask, the forum its all about 4x4's so seeing a new post about tyres a couple of times a week in inevidable. Although I got to say asking about a blown 3.0L patrol aint gona get much results, I think people are sick of talking about them - search away!

Merry Christmas Laura and safe travels. Blacklisting does occur - our moderators just block the offender and we never see him again. They have also added the 'alert moderator' button, so we can all let the team know if we think someone is really doing the wrong thing.

Merry Christmas Forumates - you've given me a lot of good info and a lot of laughs. Happy and Healthy New Year.

Merry Christmas also to those whose posts i have found offensive in some way - you have revealed yourself to the world. May next year be a better one for you. Happy and Healthy New Year.

Merry Christmas to those who's arrogance has shown in the way you have stated your opinion as fact while denigrating others posting their views and experiences. May next year see you still on the forum, listening more than talking. Happy and Healthy New Year.

Merry Christmas to David, Michelle and the team, who enable us to meet on this great forum, and who allow us freedom of speech within reason.Well done and may the New Year be good for you and your family.

Merry Christmas, happy holidays, safe travels and good health to one and all.

Umm,
" The knowlegable and the foolish 'write' whilst the wise simply 'read' "

Sorry, but that makes many people who post here either 'knowledgeable' or 'foolish' and those that never post as 'wise'

However, if they were 'knowledgeable' and also 'wise' I believe they would post, and the 'foolish' would then at least (maybe) have an opportunity to understand and hopefully learn as they read :-))

Merry xmas to all reading, and all the knowledgeable & foolish also.. L0L

WOW you opened up a can of worms with this one. Lot of truth in what you say, but like you say we all see people like this each and every day in our lives. I am only fairly new to here and still "learning the ropes" - but I have experienced what you say. A good example: just ask something on Coopers tyres to bring out all the experts that have never used them but have an "authorative opinion" on them! Apart from all the other reasons already posted I think jealousy also plays its part too sometimes.

Anyway I have really enjoyed myself here with "my new family" even if its me just mostly listening/reading while someone else is doing all the talking/writing. There have been plenty of times I have wanted to correct a wrong reply but have chosen to stay silent to avoid a slanging match of ones right and ones wrong, but thats life. I have certainly learnt a lot from all of you - good or bad - and look forward to continuing to do so in 2008.

If I had have known you were going to Toowoomba Laura I would have got you to drop off all my familys Christmas presents. Have fun there and say hi to all my folks while your there :)) Merry Christmas to everyone and may you all have safe journeys so we all see each other again in 2008. Cheers Mick

IMHO one should offer comment and correct a reply you think is wrong. Thats the power of the forum, differing views and everyone has expertise in different areas.

If it slangs then respectfully withdraw. Or reply back, but never get personal, at least thats what I try and do. I have many a time wanted to call someone daft or dumb or a richard cranium and stopped myself, except Lucy who is all of them at different times heheheh

Have a great Chrissy and maybe cya next year.

Hey Laura, I know what you are on about here. I've noticed on many occasions that there is one particular person who comes to mind that will either post a sarcastic comment when such is not relevant to the post (i.e. its a serious and genuine attempt at getting information to increase the thread initiator's knowledge) or they will post a comment that is a direct crack at an individual for some opinion they have replied with. This one guy in particular always seems to have something "clever" to say but it never seems to have any relevance to the thread. I know he has P*$sed a few people off - people who are happy to share their knowledge freely.

Thing is probably if you cant really contribute to the thread don't post. Having said all that, life's too short to worry about these sorts..

Goin up the Murray, whats left of it. Have a good Chrissie & New Year all.

Hi Laura,

Rest assured, if a particular person becomes an absolute "pest" they will be blocked by the moderators, regardless of them being members, or registered visitors.

We had one imbecile who was blocked, then would register under another alias then be blocked again. Eventually it would appear that he found it too hard to gain access. (Or he grew up)
He was the type of contributor that had only his own distorted view on topics and would attempt to denigrate all other contributors on a given topic. I recall he also upset other forums he "belonged to" and was also banned from them.

David & Michelle are reasonably "tolerant" in an attempt to keep the forum "open" to a variety of views on a topic, but this tosser was just outrageous. Many long time members would remember him but we will keep his various screen names private, in case we awaken him from the dead.

One of two others I recall have also been banned for lesser, but continual "flaming" that was deemed to be "over the top".

So yes, it does, can, and will happen to anyone who does not abide by the "Code of Conduct" which is consistent with that on most other Forums.

Bill

Interesting that this post has opened up so many different opinions. Yes Laura I too have noticed what you are saying. I tend to read those posts with amusement. In a lot of cases the poster is trying to get the reaction and they do.

Such is life I guess. Many different people make the world go around and that is what makes life interesting. In this day and age I just think that people need to grow thicker skinds and let comments like some of the ones you were referring to just slip on by.

Life is way too short to get would up by people who post responses just to get a bite. This country is way too big and there is hardly enough time to explore it as it is without worrying about the smaller things.

Anyway just my two cents.

Mery Christmas to all and best wishes for the season.

Cheers

Richard

To be quite honest, one of the most annoying things is to be reading a post on a relevant topic, only to find that it has been hijacked half way through & used as a "chat room", this is usually done by 'Members'. I thought one of the benefits of being a member was the ability to use Member Messaging.

I would also like to add that I have got a hell of a lot of help from this forum, I also believe that I have been able to give some help to others.
Prior to my first Outback trip the advice that I received here was invaluable & contributed to a well oiled & trouble free 8000kms in 25 days trip, for that I give my thanks & wish everybody a .....
MERRY CHRISTMAS & A SAFE NEW YEAR!

Davoe, I can recall him and a few others. Then there were the kids at home bored during the holidays but they were outed fairly quickly and exposed for what they were.
I have a laugh at their antics and occasionally fire them up as well.
It takes all kinds to make this world as different as it is.
Merry Xmas, Happy Holidays and to those that are travelling, stay safe
