Hi All,

Doing a trip with friends to Marree, Birdsville, Cordillo Downs, Innamincka, Coongie Lakes and back down the Strzelecki Track to Arkaroola. Has anybody travelled the above roads recently ? your advise and comments of the road conditions is much appreciated.
Thank You P&J

Click on Topics at the top of the page, then select Road Conditions from the list.
Select the state/tracks you wish.

These are always kept up to date.

Bill.

Thanks Sandman but all the comments are dated 2006 and 2007. We are now middle of 2008 and that's why I want late reports. Cheers P&J

The official reports are updated as reports change for this entire area - you maybe looking at the interactive feedback which is supplemental to the official report information contained in the main page.

Hi David & Michelle

I done the following:
Topics, Road conditions, S.A.map, S.A.desert road conditions, then look under Birdsville and Innamincka, then read the comments.
What am I doing wrong ? Thanks P&J

P&J,

That is all correct. I opened these and the official reports are dated 2nd & 5th May 2008. You indicate they are 06 & 07 - this is the user comments section not the official road reports information. The official information is shown directly on the page such as Open or Open 4WD plus whatever comments we receive from the reporting bodies. The View/Make more comments button is where our users can put in there personal reports on the roads. It would be great if people did this and put it in the right section because it gets lost in the size of the forum.

A little rant not directed at yourself highlighted by this thread. I hate to see posts talking about break up the forum into sections etc.. when the system is exactly broken down into sections that are all perfectly designed to store a particular type of data, like road and fuel prices system, these are not a standard forum system they are purpose built to store that type of information. It is just people are to lazy to put the data in the right section. It is the main reason that I will not break up the system into categories because almost every forum I read that has categories has everything in the wrong place anyway. I have seen forum posts about these roads likely and people put in generally good information - why the heck can it not be put in the road conditions section of the system. End Rant....

P&J as I said this is certainly not directed at you or anyone in particular it just gets up back up sometimes. Have a good one.

Hi P & J
I went from Birdsville to Innamincka via Cordillo Downs, Coongie Lakes, then the Bore Track just over 2 weeks ago in a Holden Monterey with Camper Trailer.
The roads were generally in good condition, but there were longish sections of corrugations and dust, and no shortage of loose rocks. Very little traffic to worry about, we went 3 days and only saw about 5 vehicles, including 2 graders just out from Birdsville.
No left over damage from wet conditions were seen.
Have a good trip
I'll get there someday, or die wanting to.

Hi brushmarx,

Tnx for the above, going in a nissan patrol with 6x4 trailer and taking it easy. The corrugations are the main worry. Cheers P&J

Was up at Arkaroola last week - the road into there from Balcanoona could only be improved by sealing it ! The closer you get to Arkaroola the smoother and wider it gets ! Didn't see the track from Mt Hopeless to Balcanoona via Moolawatana, in case you are going that way - surfaces from Balcanoona down to Blinman are very good overall - the road from Copley to Balcanoona is in good condition, but quite stony in places ... the Flinders in general is parched - if they haven't had rain by the time you get there, prepare for high dust nuisance........ and maybe take a bale of straw for the animals :-o) .......they are doing it really tough up around Arkaroola. I have a couple of road surface pics for that area, from last week, on my site [ http://users.picknowl.com.au/~darian ].

Hi Darian,

Thanks for the info. I worked at Arkaroola in the 60's as a grader driver for North Flinders Mines grading all the roads on Spriggs's property so know what you are saying. Will possibly follow the pipe line road and go to Arkaroola via Paralana Hot Springs or via Balcanoona. Cheers P&J

Hi,
Just came down from Innamincka to Lydhurt, was advised by the workers to use the old Strez track, a bit dusty, but fairly good.
Don't use the Dillon Hwy as it is very badly chopped up from all the Road trains using it.
If you see red marker flags on the side of the road slow down as it is a rough patch.
have a good trip
Regards Bob
