Hi
I have a 2001 model GU 3L with 201000km on the clock. In the last month I have started to notice a significant decrease in fuel economy. Also the intercooler hose has developed a weep. Can anyone give me feedback on this

The 3 ltrs dont have a very good rep, that being said you have over 200,000 km, injectors, fuel pump, maf sensor, valve clearences and any other items of the electronic fuel injection may all need checking.
Good luck with it.

Stephen while you are waiting for a 3lt expert may I suggest you do a search though the archives on this site for 3lt problems. Also their is a dedicated Patrol
forum.
I would suggest that you do not drive it till you get some expert advice.

Stephen where is the intercooler hose leaking from? If it is where the rubber hose joins onto the metal pipe on the intercooler, and the intercooler has been removed recently then you will need to separate the two parts and wipe the inside portion of the rubber hose and the outer portion of the metal pipe with acetone to to ensure that they are both completely dry and free of any oil residue or mist and rejoin and clamp the hose. The reason I said use acetione to clean is that it will remove any oily residue an leave both parts completely dry and when they are rejoined they will not weep oil. Power loss, when did you last replace your MAF Sensor above the aircleaner unit? I replace
mine at regular intervals (cost approx. $320), despite what is said you cannot succesfully clean them. MAF's can be the cause of power loss because it is sending the wrong signal back to your ECU.

Why would you get oil in your intercooler? Isn't it only the air from the air filter, after its been through the turbo, that goes through the intercooler. I would have thought oil in your intercooler suggests a problem. Where is the crankcase breather plumbed into on these engines?
I read a post about someone making an oil catch can for one of these. Just did a quick search but couldn't find it.

The oil is generally from the crank case ventilation system.
An air oil separator and catch can is apparently a good idea.
Occasionally though its the turbo leaking oil, but not very often.
These also get a large build up of carbon, oil and mank around the throttle body which can also effect performance and economy.

The crankcase breather hooks into airfilter housing.
