I know this looks like a daft topic...an avid camper who dislikes sleeping bags lol. But another sleepless night in Vittoria
State Forest on Saturday night convinced me the bag has to go.
Ever since I was a boy scout I hated them, and believe me, Ive tried all shapes and varieties. I just cannot sleep properly in a sleeping bag! I spend half the night trying to twist and position myself comfortably, or untangling the bag between my legs!
So if you are a tent camper like me with your stretcher and therefore sheets/blankets aren't practical, what alternatives do you have?
If anyone has a suggestion, feel free to make it.

being that I'm getting an old bugger I got another two bags that take up stuff all room really and I use them like doonas one under neath me and 2 on top of me. In not so cold climates I dont use the 2 and the bags are -7.
This all cost around 300 to set up but I dont put a price on my sleep comfort.

I know exactly what you mean, I don't like them either.
I've been using a doona for a few years now, a king single doona will quite easily fit into a sleeping bag carry bag and it is big enough to fold in half so that it can be used as a mattress blanket also.

I have to agree....... My sleeping bag is over twenty years old. It is a minus 15 and i use it as a doona the majority of the time. only when it is very cold do i use it as a sleeping bag.
I use a light blanket underneath

Hi Geoff. I hate sleeping bags as
well. When tent
camping I take my swag and make it up like a bed with a doona and when zipped up it is like a cocoon. Plenty of room to spread out if u get a decent size one. Don't need a stetcher then.

Hi Geoff,
I too can't sleep zipped up inside a sleeping bag! I have a couple of those bags that you can open up and use as a doona - perhaps one underneath depending on what you're lying on. You can also zip a couple together to give you a heap more room to stretch and move around in, but then it's a pain trying to find the zipper when you need to get up in the middle of the night (which for some of us may happen more than once).
Cheers
Gerry

I'm 6'4" and have a huge bag. Even so I find I'm constantly adjusting myself each time I want to change position.
When I
camp I can get by on average food, dirty hands, no change of clothes or shower and hair like a scarecrow, but NOTHING matters more than a good nights sleep.
Struggling to stay awake on a Sunday afternoon drive back to
Sydney after no sleep can be a real struggle lol.

If you hate sleeping bag. Try selkbag. Do a search you will find it. Sometimes they are on ebay is
well. More expensive than a normal sleeping bag.

Don't like anything confining myself Geoff.
Just use a double sleeping bag here, square - with no hood and only have one side zipped up , this makes it far more liveable and it helps to wear thermals if need to get up in the night when its cold.

Our sleeping Bags open right up and can be zipped together, or used as a doona.
When using our swags, the sleeping bags are left inside as a doona and the whole lot rolled up.
Simple and effective.
Bill.
