hi lockey,we did the bins track yesterday from ross river homestead to alice via the plenty highway,at no stage would i call it a track but a really well maintained gravel road used by many 2wd vehicles.im not sure which part of the track you refer to as it was our first encounter with the track.
we only found one issue with excessive sand on a river bed crossing but even 2wd cars were passing with ease.
hth..cheers..Rod

Did Mt Dare to Alice just a couple of weeks back.

Mt Dare to New Andado lots of bulldust, some loose sand but towed a trailer through without too many dramas. Andado to Old Andado was excellent road. (well worth the visit). Old Andado back to Finke was excellent condition.

Finke up to Chambers Pillar turnoff was the worst road I've need on for quite a while. It had been cut up by the Desert Race. Very rough, severe corrugations, potholes etc..

Chambers road and the road from there up to Alice was quite good.

Dalhousie to Mt Dare was average. ($2.35 at Mt Dare)

Suggest go via Kulgera rather than go on the Ghan track from Finke north.

Lockey

Alan H's account is excellent. We did it last week.

We went from Mt Dare through to Alice via Santa Teresa. Section north of Old Andado Homestead is generally much better than southern section. Some long bulldust sections exist south of Santa Teresa but no drama's.

Note Mt Dare advised strongly against doing section north of Old Andado - seems it was bad up to about a month ago when track was graded - their info had us anxious but was completely wrong (caretakers at Old Andado said "we had better update them"....).

Enjoy, JD
