Heading up to Birdville for the races ex
Sydney and looking at the optional
routes. What is the general condition of the Old Strzlecki Track from Merty Merty to
Innamincka ?

We came down there from
Innamincka last week and it was good.
Some little sidetracks because of
water on the track, but no worries.

No problems, just watch out for trucks. The old track goes through the Gas Fields and there is always a lot of activity. Interesting to see the nodding oil pump thingies and plenty of gas lines around too. It is quieter down towards the Merty end.

Travelled down it coming back from the "Gathering" recently.
The Old Strzelecki is in good condition at present and is much more interesting to drive on than the New Strzelecki, which is rubble, rubble and more rubble. The Old is mainly dirt and easy to travel on.
Unless there is rain, it would be the better choice IMO.
Bill.

As Sandman said, We also came home that way. Muuuuuuch more scenic trip than "the strez". Saw a couple of
dingo's as
well in the middle of the day. One was eatind a tomato and pasta salad that some one had thrown out they're window.
Cheers Krakka

As everyone else said and I would recommend to spend a good two to three days from
Broken Hill to the Strez.
I suggest you try and convince Dave B (NSW) to travel with you as he is a fantastic trip leader and has a wealth of local knowledge, he can make boring gibber clad plains interesting.
