You talk about Birdsville yet head the post about Thargo to Innamincka??????

From Thargo you can go west via Noccundra to Dig Tree and Innamincka (most direct) or you could go via Bulloo river over to Tibbooburra and then cameron corner to Innamincka.

From Innamincka to Birdsville there are 3 routes. Go via Walkers Crossing track, Cordillo Downs, or up through Arrabury to Windorah and then on to Birdsville.

I would suggest getting a good map that has detail of the area before travelling on these roads. Hema SE Desert map etc or something similar

I should have mentioned that out through Noccundra gives the most bitumen to Innamincka. (only the last 70-80kms are dirt)

Hate to throw a spanner in the works but as you go west from Thargo you don't take the left turn down to Noccundra. You keep on going through the Jackson Oil Field then past Naccowlah Oil field and Ballera Oil field. You go on to the Dig Tree & Innaminka. If you take the turn down to Noccundra you are heading south towards the Warri Warri gate on the dog fence & Tibooburra. I have been working tin this area for the past 30 years and know it like the back of my hand.

technically correct Skip but why on earth would anyone go out past the Noccundra turn off and not go down the 20 k's to get a magic camp on the Wilson?

I would advise Aussiedingo to make use of the Wilson River camp at Noccundra then head back to the main Thargo to Jackson oil field rd take a left turn (west bound) and head out to Innaminka from there.

Also agree they should get a decent map of the area before they go.

Cheers, Trevor.

Have a look at our Places index.
Choose your map type and zoom into the area.

Or Check out our trek notes or check out Plotswap for the area.

Hope this helps
cheers
