Barry,
A friend has a 2000 petrol/gas lc100. He uses about 28 lt of lpg and about 24 of ULP per 100k.
I have a 96 80 series with the same engine and use about 16 lt of ULP and 20 of lpg per 100k.
Both are auto's and have the same engine (1fz-fe) and he does not beleive me with my figures. The only difference I can see with the engine is that the 80 uses a dizzy and the 100 uses coil packs which are meant to be better and also the intake manifold on the 100 series is different as well. Also I have heard that the auto in the 100 saps more power from the engine yet is not as strong as the A442F in the 80?

Those figures sound way to high to me. It sounds like your mate has grossly miscalculated or there is something seriously wrong with his rig. I have a 1998 100 series petrol/gas system. I went for the vapour system with the scuba tanks. On petrol I get 18l/100kms on LPG I get 22l/100Kms.

Hi Barry

LC 105 2002 1HZ diesel (non-turbo): 12-13.5 L/100km. It's not the fastest car around though :-)

If in Melbourne you can come and have a look at my setup. I live in Blackburn. I had mine put on gas at LPGAS1 in Lilydale with the latest Landi Renzo injected system and scuba tanks. Very happy with the setup and drove from Melbourne to Sydney a while ago for $83. Gas and petrol cost. Gas was about 44c per litre then.

regards,

Bruce

Hi Barry
I have had both 1997 80 series 4.5 petrol Auto, 2000 100 GXL petrol Auto, and now have a 120 Prado 2005 Grande t/d.
We have towed caravans with all ranging from a 22 ft Regal and 18.6 ft new Viscount. the following are consumption figures that we have kept for both towing and unladen.
Model Tow City country
80 4 to 4.5 k/l 5k/l 5.5 to 6k/l
100 3.5 to 4 4.5 to 5 5.5 to 6
120 t/d 6 to 6.5 6 to 8 8 to 12
you will have to do the conversion to l,100k
Unless you have a real need for a 100 series you should look to a Prado. does everything the Land cruisers do be it a bit slower on hill towing but then if your towing you should not be in a hurry.

Saw a 2002 105 series, petrol and brand new gas system, GXL trim, no extras and 130k on it for $26k......does that compare with what you are looking at? cause I am very tempted to ditch the Patrol

Hi Barry
I own a 2002 100 series TD . The last trip I did to Tassy this year pulling A Kimberley Karavan I Travelled 5947 Kl and averaged 14.01Litres per 100 Kl. In those figures the poorest was 16 and the best 10.6. The 16 comes about when you up your speed over 100kl/perhr pulling the van. The 10.6 comes about when your not towing at all and just cruising around at about 80 to 90kl/perhr. So a lots got to do with how you drive and use the throttle. Let me finish by saying that the all up weight of car and Van was 5242Kilo. I mean I carry everything including the Kitchen sink. I think those figures are fairly good. Don't carry anything on the roof unless you are prepared to carry a fuel bowser with you. Good luck with your purchase

Len

Barry,
We have a 2004TD HD-FTE, auto and get a pretty good run out of it.

In May did a trip to Swan Hill, Rochester, Melbourne, Geelong and home, had road tyre on it and nothing on the roof, very little load, best 9.4l/100, averaged 9.7l/100.

Have just done a trip with off road tyres, roof cage and loaded up, Glendambo, Googs Track, Ceduna, Streaky and around Wudinna before home to Adelaide, averaged 12.8l/100.

We are pretty happy with that.

Hi Barry, if you are going to tow I would suggest you purchase a diesel over petrol preferably a turbo as fuel consumption is much better, I cannot quote figures as there is to much variant as set by road and traffic conditions, I would also recommend a manual over autofor extra economy................ hope this helps

Barry I have a 99 GXL 4.5 Auto with VSI LPG twin scuba tanks averaging 20L/100 on gas and 20L/100 on petrol.

Gas = 20L x .70cpl = $14 per 100km

I would love 4.2TD but with a 10k premium that will buy me a lot of gas. I don't tow anything of great mass either which affects some peoples decisions.

G'day Barry,

I have an 05 T/D Cruiser - manual - that consistently returns 11.5L/100km. It's carrying a bit of extra weight... steel bar, winch, rear steel bar with twin wheel carriers, steel side rails & chequer plate steps, rear drawers. Very happy with the fuel consumption as before the bar work etc was added I was getting 11L/100km... so an increase of only 0.5L/100km is excellent.

It has ARB 250kg rear coils with airbags & Bilstein shocks.

Also tow a Coromal Capri 600 Pioneer S/L tandem (off road capable) full van that weighs around 2700kg (loaded) & when averaging 85-90km/h I get 18L/100km. Now that may sound a fair bit of an increase but when you consider that collectively, both vehicles come in at around the 5,500kg..... it's doing a bloody good job.

Oh yes, the Cruiser, which has just turned over 82,000 kays is now up for sale - along with/or without - the van.

Cruiser... $52,000.
Van....... $35,000.
