G'Day all, I am looking at purchasing an Outback Camper Trailer - the model is a Sturt. I have search the forum and not found too much advice, and wondered if anyone has any experiences with this Camper or others made by the same company - Outback Camper Trailers in Carrum Downs, south east Melbourne. They look faily robust. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Deano,

Outback have a good name, particularly with their canvas. I've seen their products at the various camping shows and they're good. I thought they were a bit $xy tho. Without having to go and dig out my Caravan and Camping expo brochures from this year, could you refresh my memory with a price? Were you dead set keen on a rear fold out soft floor model? I did a hell of a lot of research two years back when buying a camper for the Princess and my 12 month sabbatical around Oz. Found that the side opening soft floors were generally of better value. Will await your thoughts.

Cheers

Mick

Not dead set on the rear fold out set up, but I do like the idea of the slide out kitchen from the side - Makes better use of space. That was the main reason for looking at this type. Also looks to be good value for money on the second hand market.

Not certain on price - indicative fully option bugger is about $16K, but I am not looking at new !

Deano,

have a look at the Tambo and Southern Cross trailers. These were the two that represented the best value for money from my research. I ended up getting a Cooper from Tambo which was a fantastic unit (there are a few photo's on my profile page and in the gallerie folders) but both make a solid unit that's got great quality canvas work and very reasonably priced.

Cheers

Deano,

If you're after something with a decent pull out kitchen, have a look at our ad in the Trader section.

Cheers,

Jim.

Deano, I can't understand why u would pay so much for a soft
floor model. Try Casaurina in Melb. ask about hard floor model.
They come with elect. water pump / batt. slide out kitchen, also
fridge freezer, ask for Locky, tell him Graeme sent you. Cheers.

Gday Deano
I have a model called "Newel". Both Kathy and i have found it to be very comfortable and towes just great. We have an inner spring matress and a few other things that are just to make us comfortable. The slide out kitchen is good , as you can make a cuppa or cook without putting the tent bit up. We have done about 25000 km and had no trouble. The soft floor is good, we put auto carpet down and all is just fine.
If you need to look at mine, or just talk about it.Ring me or send member message.

Yes , but i think that all the tent and kitchen are similar.
We have had the Newel up and down the Oodndatta track and many more up in Vic high country. Little Wes and i also went on a track near Nerum South , which resulted in haveing both wheels off the ground , so draging it up a track in the middle of the night looking for the camping spot that we were told was easy to find.
Quite tough little trailers.

Deano,

Sorry this reply is a bit late as we've been away. We have an Outback Canning and we are very happy with it.

We like the slide out kitchen from the side and the rear fold out. The soft floor is no problem either.

As there are just two of us we find that the space is more than enough. It's also easier to get in to some narrow camping spaces especially in National Parks where they don't allow much room sometimes.

They are tough campers as we've taken ours across the Gary Junction Road, the Cape Leveque Road, Gibb River Road, to Mitchell Falls & Kalumburu, the Tanami, Oodnadatta track, Old Andado track, Savannah Way etc and it tows and handles it all with ease.

We got ours second hand three years ago and we are more than pleased with it.
