we've got our list of
places we want to go and things we want see and do, can anyone suggest any
places out there that we might of missed that are worth a look.
What's at Merty Merty, I gather it's a homested or something. Is it worth a look.
Going
Brisbane,
cunnamulla,
innamincka, doing old strez to
cameron corner,
bourke, then back to bris. Hoping to leave next weekend (that's if the handbrake can get organised).
Once again any info would be great.
Cheers,
Demc

Merty Merty is a private property, not open to the public.

Well yeah!! The bottom end of the
Bore track is private property but it costs $10 to drive through it to get to
Cameron Corner. It's worth it, its a great drive.. Michael

Can't confirm but someone suggested to me that the road from Jackson oilfield to
Innamincka is currently being bitumenised!
Is this really true?

I was up there a couple of months ago and there was no roadworks going on. the road from jackson to Nocundra and Adventure Way is bitumen, but it runs out once you get past the bridge and floodplain over the cooper near Nacowlah.

They are working on it. The bitumen goes a bit past the
Ballera Gas Plant turn off now. The idea is to get the bitumen all the way. They are doing a lot of road works at present along that stretch of road. Small sections have been bitumenised.

G'day H&D
Not sure if you added
Coongie Lake to your list of
places, which is close to
Innamincka and will take you into the Northern Strzelecki Desert (2 and 1/2 hours from
Innamincka). We are leaving next Friday and will call in at
Coongie Lake for sure. Check thread 61755 if you are interested. Replies and suggestions posted there are very valuable.
I got my HEMA Atlas and Trail guide of "Great Desert Tracks" today. (Aussiedingo recommended it) Is my first trip to "Outback" and this book seems like it has all the info I need. Ofcourse, fine tuning the trip by picking the felas brains here - just makes it more effective as time is a limited constraint (we only have 12 days)
Maybe we bump into yas. (
Grey Nissan X-Trail we will be cruising in)
Cheers

A lot to see on that run.
How much time do you have? :o)
Noccundra Pub,
camp the night on the
Wilson River opposite.
Paroo just had good rain so Cunnawinya, but it might still be a bit wet underfoot at the
camp sites.
Yowah if you have the time and want to do a little fossicking.
(We have a fossicker in the family, so can't just drive past these
places)
Plenty said about
Innamincka and area in other posts.
Tibboburra -
sturt national park to the NE and NW of town. There is a self drive tour of the NP NW of town around the old station. Don't miss the replica of Sturts boat on the post on the north side of town. Ask why cart it this far in a drought?
Bourke, for a bit of a
good camp,
camp at the CP at
north bourke.
Aboriginal centre at
Brewarrina worth a drop in.
Lightning Ridge, a few newish opal fields are opening up. Bit of a tourist town is
Lightning Ridge now.
Now you will want an extra week :o)

Fort gray...has
water to replenish with...great walk to old
homestead and
windmill PTO gearbox still turning after how many yeas.?...Tiboburra NPWS for the Sturt re-enactment...the B&W ring that goes to the digtree and back....very pretty scenery...especially later towards dusk...More Beaut scenery from One tree to
Packsaddle if you r coming from Whitecliffs way...if you find a BBQ plate, its
mine :)
The list goes on and on...i wouldnt miss policemans
water hole or Congie lakes .... but the best time i had was sitting under the red gums, with baby Budgies falling out of them, and crows complaining
about us, and dingos at night for a scrounge...couple of yellow bellies, a tin full of blue swimmers and one
water rat that wanted my fish head more than the crabs...
Cant wait to get back....sone time in the next 12 months.
Andrew

We stayed at Coongie lakes. Flies by day and Mozzies by night. We are still glad we went though. If your a component 4x4er take the 4x4 track to the right as you enter the
camp ground. At The Nindi pub South of
St George Barnsie puts on a great spread and there is a hot shower and
toilet. We swagged it. But there are many caravans parked up by the river. Its on the map. There are properties that you can traverse but make sure you ask the owners. They need to know out there whos around. Just use your manners and ask they wont bite. Take the time to have a chat to the fella at
the dig tree on the property Nappa Marrie. In hind site I wish we saw him first as he has lived most of his life out there and knows the history. You wont need a parks pass to go there. We came up the
Bore track headed west to Moomba platform and then back tracked up the old STRZ track. we only got a permit for Coongie Lakes which is obtained at the Trading Post. If your into the history we purchased a book on
Farina at Mungerannie and one on
Innamincka. Both are readable while there looking around. While reading we realised Global warming is a load of rubbish. Image Could Not Be Found
