Hi all,
We are heading of to the
Carnarvon Ranges in about three weeks, have read all the available literature and maps, and both vehicles (Pathfinder and Prado) have had all the obligitory checks and
services. We intend to travel through the ranges ending up at CSR
well No5.
I understand that ther track can be a bit rough in
places and very rocky as
well.
Question is has anyone done this trip recently, and is there anything else I should be aware of, I don't think it has rained to much in this area recently so hopefully muddy tracks wont be a problem.

Actually Barry,
I think Alan's (Equinox)
blogs discuss the Murchison in more detail. Here's the
link to his blog page.
Cheers, Mick

Hi Barry,
Have just returned from the
Carnarvon Ranges 10 days ago, with a group of 11 vehicles. You did not mention in your cover request which way you were going into the Ranges. As far as the track conditions are concerned, they are very good. The rocky section that you mentioned is only about 250 metres long and quite easy to negotiate (steady, steady). Unfortunately there has been no rain for some time and all the
rock holes are down to a dribble. You will need to take plenty of
water. If you have any other queries feel free to contact me at any stage, have been out there at least a dozen times and know this area
well.
Regards,
Aimee

Aimee,
Thanks for that, that is just what I was looking for.
We intend to travel to Kumarina R/House and then head east past Beyondie
Homestead and Mary Mia through the Ranges on to Blue Hills then to CSR
Well No5.
Not sure if we will return via this route or not, what route did you take on the return trip?
Regards

Hi Barry
Have you looked at Trek Nolte on this site?
http://www.exploroz.com/TrekNotes/WDeserts/Carnarvon_Range.aspx
You wont have any trouble with your behicles especially if they are diesels. If petrol vehicles watch the very dry grass/spinifex in case of under vehicle fire
By which route are you leaving the area?
cheers
Phil

Phil B,
Yes I have checked out the Trek notes on EO.
Spent so much time on planning the trip in I had not given much thought to which one I would take to get out, probably just back track the way we came in.

Hi Barry
If you follow the track notes as mentioned by Phil B (WA) You should have no problems and a very enjoyable trip as I did.

Barry,
We went in through Ned's
Creek Station, through the
Carnarvon Ranges to
Well 5 then down the C.S.R. to
Wiluna. If you are going in through Marymia Station don't forget to ring John before you get there to get his permission. Hope you enjoy your trip, it's getting fairly warm out there now. You didn't say whether you were towing a trailer or not? If you get short of
water Well 6 has excellent
water for drinking.
Regards,
Aimee

Aimee,
Yes, on the list of things to do, is ring John at Marymia.
Both vehicles will be towing an offroad C/T,
water shouldn't be a problem, but thanks for
the tip.
What was the CSR like back to
Wiluna?

Barry,
The C.S.R. from
Well 5 to
Wiluna was very corrugated. Also are you aware that there is a restriction on towing trailers through Cunya Station section which is 4b to No 3
Well? Have you read the Trek notes on Oz Explore?
Regards,
Aimee

Aimee,
Thanks for that, yep I new about the restricitions through Cunya Station section of the CSR. Corrugations are not my favourite part of 4WDriving, so we will probably look at an alternative route out, thanks.
