Next winter I have been invited to do some touring around
Alice Springs. I'm not elated at the prospect of flying there and hiring a vehicle (we are in
Sydney), so I'm contemplating making a run there in our own vehicle via
Cameron Corner, the Strezelecki Track to
Leigh Creek and North to Alice via
Oodnadatta.
Presuming that I was taking this as a scenic route on the way to my destination, how many days should I set aside. Ignore closed roads etc. I will be towing the KK.

Hi,
I have done the trip from
Cameron Corner to
Marla on the Stuart highway in 3 days towing a trailer but we were on our way home to
Mintabie (5hrs from Alice) and in a hurry. I would plan to spend at least a day from
Cameron Corner and a look around
Innamincka. A day to
Marree then next night at
Marla or
Kulgera. In saying that I have spent a week just between
Oodnadatta and
Marree doing research on lonely
graves. If you look hard and talk to people on the way there is an enormous amount to see on that trip. The old
Strzelecki track follows the
creek down to the Tinga Tingana crossing and is a day's journey in itself but if you stick to the main road it is a quick trip. Stop at
Montecollina bore for lunch or a swim.
We also spent one whole Anzac Day in the
Cameron Corner pub so it pays to be as flexible as possible!
Good travelling.
Geoff.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but we are going to Camerons Corner for New Years Eve.
Going to be a long night I think with 3 midnights to celebrate.
Might need more than a snatch strap for a recovery.

"A day to
Marree then next night at
Marla or
Kulgera." In that day you will pass Lake Eyre south, mound springs, old railway sidings,
William Creek,
Algebuckina bridge,
Oodnadatta and lots of fascinating country in between. Suggest allow for at least a couple of nights on the
Oodnadatta track to take in the sights. Even more if you take a flight from
William Creek over L. Eyre and/or painted hills. Also, rather than going from
Oodnadatta to
Marla, how about going up to
Dalhousie Springs, via
Hamilton. From Dalhousie you can either go out to
Kulgera or head up the Old
Andado track which is a great drive, though last winter there were a lot of big stretches of bulldust. If doing the Old
Andado track allow for one or possibly two nights on the track, including one at Old
Andado campground.
Have a great trip.
Val.
