Julie, there are plenty of good professional courses available.
I do however suggest contacting your local 4WD club.
I live in Sydney and most of our local clubs offer VETAB accredited training usually covered in the very small membership fee.
Your state association "4wd Victoria" should be able to help you out."
visit www.fwdvictoria.org.au for more info

All the best

G'day Julie would have to recommend the Vic toyota landcruiser club, they have a lot of property with good tracks and an excellent driver training programme.(dont have to have a toyota)

Also look at TCIS for insurance got to be a club member but they cover you for off road and at a good price.

Have a good trip up to the tip.

Cheers........Steve

P N L driver training not cheap but very good. I had never done any real 4x4 driving before so swmbo paid for a coarse 4 years ago and we had a ball ever since.

Four Wheel drive Victoria run courses regulary. Go to their Web site & look in the "Training" tab up the top.
Alternatively four wheel drive clubs will often do training for far less cost with the added benifit of continued learning on trips.
