Might have been the weekly drug flight , I read the news item , when people find objects on Google Earth I would have thought they would mark the spot...
Like the 2 I found Outbound from Sydney and Inbound

S33 48 19.0 E151 21 04.3

and

S34 09 41.4 E151 13 40.5

And you can see the ghosting effect

The pic looks more towards somewhere east of Numery Station in the Simpson Desert proper. It seems to be desert country whilst around Santa Teresa there is more Mulga scrub.

It is a pretty in conclusive photo. It also looks more like a military style aircraft.

Its quite possible that it is a light refraction putting a passing airtcraft in proximity to the ground.

Good story though!...lol

The 'passing aircraft' you are referring to is most likely the aircraft used to take the photographs used to compile the images that make-up Google Earth. Contrary to popular belief, they (the photos) are not taken from satellites.

Excellent thinking on that one mate.

Oh yes, please remind me, what aircraft flies at 60000km above the ground?? I must have forgotten the make & model!!!!

Theories are great until put to the test.
Cheers Colin.

G'day Willem
Yep, it does look to be closer to the edge of the Simpson, lay of land and plant size, correct on the Mulga scrub, while there doesn't appear to be any shadow below the aircraft.
Just another thing to ponder over the red @ red o'clock tonight.
Cheers

DIO

Google Earth is made up of mostly Satellite Images from DigitalGlobe but they also use high resolution Aerial Photos when available. The Database is being constantly updated from all available sources. You can usually see where they have used aerial photo's as the image tint is usually different.

Cheers
Dick

DIO, Can you keep the Friday Funnies for Friday.....Taken from aircraft.....please!

My money is on an aircraft in flight, twin jet with engines on the rear tail such a Citation or lear jet ie business jet. Not a boeing 717. It has not broken up so I doubt if it has landed in the Simpson Desert. Probably on a flight to Alice or Broome. IMHO

My money says it's not remotely connected with aircraft.

It's 40 metres long and has a shot line run at 10 o'clock.

Someone's been digging holes thereabouts and the country rock has been brought up to the surface.

Ranger,
I'm with you, while I agree it looks like an aircraft, I ran the google ruler over it and it must be a Jumbo jet (747) It measured over 36mtr long by 26mtr wide.
That's one big mother of a plane.

Sure he's not playing Solitaire Bonz?

Ever time I've played it within 5 minutes some bugger shoves his head over my shoulder and says, "that red 7 will go on the black 8 you know"

EPIRBS are too bloody slow, pack of cards and a game of Solitaire will get you rescued in minutes!

Hi Colin, Those measurements are if the aircraft is on the ground, not if it is in the air. 747-400 is 70mtrs long and 64mtrs wide (wing span) Citation business jet (with engines on the tail as shown are 19.5 mtrs wide and 19.5 mtrs long. Put it in the air at say 30,000 ft and this will appear larger. My money is still on the Syd -Bme business flight as per the above.

Regards
