Hi Chris
We usually stay at the Stuart Range Caravan Park, on your right hand side as you leave the Stuart Highway. Clean and tidy

Cheers

Hi Chris and Denise,

can second the Big 4. Northern (bottom) end of Hutchison Street on the left hand side. Hutchison Street is the main drag.

Cheers Mick

The Best - not sure

But I can also recommend the Big4 CP in Hutchinson street.
It's called the Oasis Caravan Park and while there is no lawn areas (it is Coober Pedy after all) we found it very clean, tidy and central to shops and eateries, etc.

Have stayed in Big 4 park(good) and one out of town which allows you to go down under ground into a large communal or private smaller dug outs to camp. You can even set your tent up to sleep in under ground but we just layed a tarp down and slept on that. They do under ground opal tours too. They are on the right coming into C.P coming from the sth a couple of kays from the main town.

We camped in the underground camp. It's calledRiba's. It's excellent, with a good tour as well. They even do a tour of their own underground house.
Cheers

Stayed at the one behind the hotel/motel on the left at the start of the main drag. Can't remember it's name, could have been a Top Tourist, it was quite good. Think It was across the road from the Tourist Information Centre.

Hi Folks
The best park by far is the Stuart Range, turn right just after you leave the highway. It's a short distance out of the town proper and so doesn't get the wandering "locals" like some of the other parks. The sites are a good size, the staff friendly and the amenities are good.

Some of our indigenous brothers and sisters tend to play up a bit in the town centre (or they did when I was there last April)

Make sure you take a trip to the Breakaways, if you have a 4wd it's a breeze to do the circuit (afternoon is best) it's OK in a normal car as well, just a bit corrugated. Get a map from the tourist info centre.
Enjoy

Me Again
Don't use The Breakaways link in my post, Exploroz has put in a link to the breakaways in WA, not the Breakaways near Coober Pedy

Just stayed at the Stuart Range, our 3rd time there, it was hot but there is shade for the highest of vans, great pool and terrific Pizzas, may be a while to wait for it but they are fantastic, water is available at 40 cents for 20 litres.
Good and Friendly people, no probs with the locals at all

Stuart Range Caravan Park, where we did some washing of ourselves and some clothes the only problem was it was early and still hot, anyway it cooled down and we ordered a Pizza from the restaurant at the CP, WELL! it was the best Pizza we have had for years had it for tea as well as lunch the next day.

Pulled from my Blog

I can still see, smell, and taste the Pizza.

Have a good stay

Cheers

Richard
