Hi all
We will be visiting these areas July/august this year, permits gained and a boat trip to the Victoria ruins organised, anyone visited these places last dry and do you have any tips, I have timed out the approx crossing time for the Cahill river.
Cheers

Hi Margaret
Might pay to check if the store is going to be open this year, (it wasn't last year) other wise you are going to have to make your own way to Victoria Settlement. Which is a bit hard without a boat. Also check the tide times to get across Cahill Crossing. If you are interested in Aboriginal Art, get a permit to go to the Injalak Arts & Craft Centre at Oenpelli, it's worth the short drive off the main track.
Merl camping ground is just before you get to Cahill Crossing on the East Alligator River just in case you want to camp close to catch the tide in the morning. Guluyambi Boat Cruise on the East Alligator is also worth the effort, the locals will even show you how to throw a spear. Sunset at Ubirr is also a must. When you get to Coburg leave some oysters on the rocks for the next lot.

Hello Margaret
I will also be on the Cobourg Peninsular in July.

Hi Margarat
By the sounds of it Venture North are now doing the tours of the Victoria Settlement. Ph no. of the store is (08) 89790455 or you could try the rangers at Garig Gunak Barlu National Park (Cobourg) (08) 89790244 to see if store is going to be open this year, you will need to be fully self sufficiant if it's not. You can look up the old web site as well www.cobourgadventures.com.au.
Have a great trip, you will love Gove as well.

Thanks for the numbers Rick, I will phone them closer to our departure, I went to the web site you suggested, but it is asking for a login and password, any ideas what it may be. What i need to know is, if there is access to water for showering etc or will we have to take in more than drinking water.

Hi Margaret
Water isn't a problem, there are showers and drop toilets at both generator and non-generater campsites, they also have plenty of shades over the BBQ areas since the cyclone we had a few years ago that blew most of the shade trees away. are you spelling the website correctly, I just tried and put me straight through
