Hey Gang,

planning on a camping trip at Christmas, the only trouble is where to camp.

our requirements:
-dogs allowed (3 dogs, well behaved)
-vehicle based camping ( I have roof top)
-water for swimming very close to camp
-not jammed packed at Christmas (this narrows it down a bit)
-bush camping (free) preferred, but if we have to pay, we have to pay
-toilet and shower if available, but not mandatory
-willing to travel upto 6 hrs from Canberra

access isn't a concern, as we both have well equipped 4wds set up for almost anything, and we wouldn't mind a bit of 4wding on the trip anyway.

the challenge is set. been looking and found a few places (as one would within 6 hrs of Canberra) but no dogs closes the search very quickly.

help!!!!PLEASE!!!

Good luck! It's a tall order, dogs are harder to cater for than kids, hopefully someone has a hot tip for ya.

Not a bad camp spot on the Shoalhaven River, no facilites though.

T/O the Kings Hwy at Warri onto Mayfield road, follow this along to you come to Stewarts Xing Road, T/R, the camping spot is at: 35o 14'45.56S
148o 53'29.40E.

Can be a few camp there if the water in the river's flowing.

The T/O on the Kings Hwy is only a few k Canberra side of the big bridge on the way to Braidwood.

There is another spot on the same river, but this time you go out through Tarago. Check the Google maps for this one. Oealan Ford or a name like that.

Hope this gives you a better result than you have got so far.

The usual spot Greg , Talbotville - will get crowded following boxing day , but its not to bad , secret is to be there before about 2pm 26/12

More than satisfies all other critera except shower.

Hi Greg

I agree we are not a "Gang", that's for "God Damm" language.

If you like the ocean, try Mystery Bay just south of Naroomba.
Fits all your requirements and you can take the dogs in the camping ground but watch the NP rangers on the north and south sides of the area.

Regards
John

I would recommend the Barmah state forest near Echuca. Dogs allowed and it's free. Lots of good spots on the river and it was not crowded when we camped there last Christmas. No facilities though.

It was very quiet until the Murray Marathon swept past one afternoon. Then it was quiet again.

Cheers

Pete

Greg,
You can try Wee Jasper, Billy Grace Reserve. Might be a tad close to Canberra (hour or two) but will cater for all you ask except the fees. By memory its $6/night per adult. Has hot showers & toilets, camp right on the river (shallow), dog friendly, plenty of room, never been flat out whilst ive been there even in Easter. Theres a website i believe. Good luck.
