We visited the
park last weekend 4 Oct, despite the less than favourable
camping weather with the intention of
camping at Blue Gums
camp area within the Big Yango precinct. Due to the weather we elected not to
camp, however we had a most enjoyable day.
This is a gated area and you are required to book, pay, and receive an access key with the Gosford Office of NSW National Parks. This process is all very seamless and we received the key in the mail within a day. They do recommend that bookings are made at least one week in advance to allow time for the key to be forwarded.
I thoroughly recommend this area for those looking for a close to
Sydney get-away; the
camp areas are
well maintained, grassed and suitable for camper-trailers. You can also book the old
homestead for those not wanting to
camp out.
There is a loop track that you can drive thorough the area that winds its way around approximately thirty kilometres and which takes you past the walk to Mt Yengo
lookout. Certainly there are many walking opportunities, plenty of wildlife to see, and for the energetic you could mountain bike around
the loop track.
