I read in a Blog here on EO of Running Waters/Eel Pool on the
Oakover River, east of
Nullagine, WA.
Earlier Hema Maps and other maps have named these two
places as one and this is not so.
Running Waters co-ords are 21°41'00.8" South (approx) and 121°07'20.3" East (approx)
while Eel Pool is 21°46'26.7" South (approx) and 121°03'11.5" East (approx)
There is a rough track into
Running Waters and a small
camping area closeby while there is no track into Eel Pool (according to the owners of Warrawagine Station). I will attempt to walk in there next time around :-)

A magic part of our country.

G'day Willem
Spot on mate ~ like very many
places throughout the
Pilbara and no doubt elsewhere in the outback, incorrect names are given to
places that become popular, then that incorrect name sticks and history to a small degree is changed. Some years ago, I had a hell of a time trying to convince a major 4wd radio network, to change the incorrect spelling of a particular
well /
waterhole on the
Canning Stock Route to it's correct and historically documented name, the place ~ Windich Spring ~ not Windage spring as it was seen on their Web site.
Not a big deal but Tommy Windich played an important part of Western Australia's early history and of course that of the iconic
Canning Stock Route and it is nice to know he is remembered by the naming of this beautiful spring.
Regards and safe mate.

G'day Joe
Hope that life is treating you kindly :-)
The number of incorrect history markers and publications around is incredible.
A
plaque near
Beltana (SA) commemorating J.McD Stuarts epic journeys through the inland claimed he had used a camel for personal transport. This is incorrect as he only ever used a horse named Polly. I tried to get the
plaque corrected but to no avail as those in command just shrugged their shoulders. I then passed the info on to the JMcD Stuart Appreciation Society and they told me I was wrong about the
plaque but later apologised :-) Going that way again next week so shall see what has transpired in the ensuing time (5 years now)
Take care
Cheers

Hi Willem,
Thanks for the heads up. The current 1:250k Natmap map shows the 2 names for 2 different
places. As you say, there's a fair bit of confusion on other maps.
We use the 1:250k as a reasonably definitive reference, though while in WA we found parts of it were pretty outdated. Tracks shown on the map had been abandoned and overgrown years ago, while mature aged bitumen roads weren't shown.
The offending blog (I guess it's ours!) has been amended.
Just back from our 4 month trip and pleased to see you're back too and here on EO.
Cheers
John

Hi Willem
we have been at Eelpool many years ago. There wa a track crossing the Davis at Skullsprings and then leading towards the Oak River on the western side of the
Davies. From there Eelpool is in short walking distance. Eelpool had some
water
but was nothing in beauty compared to
Running Waters. The track disappeared a 100 m or so before the
Oakover River. Rob pointed us to the track and would know if it still exists.
Near the track above and near Eelpool there has been a place called
Palm Springs or similar which we could not identify (no palms).
Cheers
