Hi all - on the recent trip I had converted all the 2005 Nat raster ECW maps and loaded them onto my GPS unit - Didn't have any trouble until we ran off Map 53 and entered Map 52 - on the mereenie loop actually !!

The conversion program had not worked properly and all I had was a grey background with no map detail at all ... All other conversions were fine and worked as expected ...

Anyone had this happen and managed to fix it ? - I have now tried several conversions and downloaded the conversion programme 3 times and still cannot get any detail on Map 52 - It works fine in OziExplorer as an ECW on the laptop but just doesnt convert for Ozi and Windows CE ..

Any assistance - otherwise I'll have to log it with OziExplorer themselves..

Cheers

Mandrake,

Sounds like a problem with the original source file used for the conversion.

There is a tutorial on how to divide the Natmap files up before running the conversion against them. Each file must be of a maximum size.

Mandrake

what conversion program you using?

OzieCE can see and run ECW files so they don't need converting, are you using OZFX3 to convert?

Regards

Richard

The download is QZFX2 and it converts ECW to OZFX3 type -
Pretty sure I tried the straight ECW file and it didnt work - I'll try again
and let you know
Thanks

Mandrake

I had this happen back in the early days, I have HP PDA's and my first one would have a memory problem when changing over maps, I had to down scale them.

this info is off OziExplorer web site, I think most digital maps are coming out in ECW so all formats can read them..

Cheers

Richard

Important information about OziExplorerCE Maps

Just like PC OziExplorer, two files are required to use a map in OziExplorerCE, the map image and the .map file. Both files must be copied to the maps folder on the PDA.

Maps come in various formats. You may need to convert your maps so they can be used in OziExplorerCE. See the list below for how to use your maps in OziExplorerCE -

Map Image formats that OziExplorerCE can use are -
OziExplorer formats (ozf2, ozfx3)
ECW format (only on PDA's with ARM cpu's)
The image formats jpg, png and bmp are also supported but are fully loaded into memory so the images must be small and only 8bit and 24bit color formats are supported. It is highly recommended maps in jpg, png and bmp format are converted to OZFx3 using the Img2Ozf conversion software.
Maps that can be converted to ozfx3 format for use in OziExplorerCE are -
BMP, PNG, TIF, JPG, GIF, MrSID, ECW
Mapping formats BSB, BSB 4, BSB 5, Maptech HDR and RML
Kompass maps

To convert the above maps, use the "Img2Ozf" program which can be downloaded from this web site. More information about Img2Ozf.

I have ozf2 files of NSW (downloaded from the free maps site linked on the OziExplorer web page) and Oziexplorer won't open them. Any suggestions?
Sorry, I don't mean to steal the thread here, but I think it's also along the lines of the above problem.

Only thing I could see was - you must use the trial version not the demo version .

So if you bought and upgraded from the demo - that could be the problem ?

the web site says that the latest versions support ozf2, so I was wondering if I was doing something wrong. Will write to them and see what happens.

Fred

You still need a Map file to open the ozf2 file. see below

Sydney Region_ozf = map file, this is the instructions need by Ozie to read the map.
Sydney Region.ozf2 = the data file which you see on the Ozie screen.

These is not a technical reply, but the best way I can put it.. LOL

Cheers

Richard

I have just tried it on OziExplorer 3.95.5f and they opened up OK, the "Sydney Region.ozf2" are copies of my file names straight off the computer.

Thanks to all above .. Problem is sort of solved ..
I managed to get the ECW map to fire up BUT it won't zoom below 60% -

I think there's a place in the menu somewhere where you can select the zoom stops
I'll go play for a little while and see if I can figure it out ..

Cheers once again

Mandrake - I'm gunna need this map for the Gibb R R next year ...
