Off the boat in
Devonport and doing the full circle of Tassie....which way....clockwise or anti-clockwise
I have been told clockwise is the way to go because it is more down
hill travelling???
Any thoughts please.
cheers

andrew,
i recomend anti clockwise as the mountains on the west coast are steeper so going down them and then up the east coast will make your driving easier.
i also recomend you take into consideration the weather, look at the 3-5 day forcast a miserable south westerly is better spent in
st helens than
strahan.

I agree, we copped it at
Strahan. Make sure you have minimum 3 weeks there. We made the mistake of looking at the map and saying "yep, two weeks no worries."
We really want to go back as we only completed the west and central areas of taz. Beautiful place.
We're in your boat as
well, long way from W.A.
Make sure you do the boat tour from
Strahan out to hell's
gate and
Sarah island (penal colony) Go to the theatrical production re the colonization as
well. Maybe even give the
Montezuma falls track for a bit of a 4x4 challenge. There were a couple of bog holes there back in 2000 but don't know the condition of them now.
Have a great trip and make sure you book a cabin on the Spirit of Tasmania unless you going the tazzie tiger.
Regards.
Gibb River in July.

We did clockwise both times we visited Tassie and didnt really notice a drama with the mountains, hey..iTs drving anyways, depends on what you're there to see and how it all fits in.m Its a beautful place that deserves to be seen in a relaxed way not in a racing circumnavigation.

Andrew,
We went anti clock. One reason was if you find you
run out of time (easy to do), you can "cut the corner" to high tail it back to
Devonport, you can't do that on the other side...

Looking at a map laying on the table, we went clockwise, never had any problems (other than sharing a tent with our 4 kids for 3 weeks). Great place, would go back tomorrow (without the kids). 3 weeks wasn't enough time!!!

does it matter whether your looking at a map on the table or standing in Tas as to which direction one goes?
b4 you tasmanians remind us that tas is at the top of the world, is there any difference if the map is upside down?Wow! am I cute

No it doesn't matter as long as you understand that the top of every reputable map is always north
