Can anybody suggest the best route from Pt Macquarie to
Adelaide? Also, what are the best spots for overnight
free camping? I will be towing a 13ft caravan. Thanks.

Walcha,
Tamworth, Coonabaraban,
Forbes,
Hay, then either turn Left 7km before
Balranald and travel via
Ouyen Tailem Bend Adelaide or
Balranald,
Mildura,
Renmark,
Adelaide

Mendooran which is in between Coonabaraban and Dubbo, then
Hay,on the River .

I thought it would be easier to go Pacific Hwy to Hexham
New England To
Singleton Golden Hway to Dubbo and so on.

I would jump on the Oxley Highway turn right at Nevertire and then follow the
Mitchell Highway to
Nyngan. Turn left onto the Barrier Highway all the way to
Adelaide.
There is lots of opportunity for free camps between
Nyngan and
Cobar. Just keep an eye on which side the rail line is on, the road crosses the railway about halfway, and pull into the bush on the opposite side. There is a large open area on the left just after you cross the rail line but many other
places hold promise.
I can recommend the CV
Park in
Cobar just keep away from the
Truck Stop side.
You should be able to get from
Cobar to
Adelaide in about 10 hours. Grab a nice lunch at the Mulga Inn in
Broken Hill and good cakes in
Burra for afternoon tea.
A few years ago we travelled from
Broken Hill to
Ballina in one day basically following the above route. Once you get to
Walcha it is very flat and there is virtually no traffic until you get to
Adelaide outskirts.
