Hello Folks
Taking the family to a
well earned break to Moruya in December. Planning to visit Deua NP, among other
places. I heard there were some fires there early this year or late last year. Anyone been there lately? Some info on what's it like will be great.
Thanks in advance.
Froilan.

Going there this weekend to Bendethra. It is God's country. A real piece of paradise. Go there, you won't be disappointed.

Check with NPWS , when I was there last thursday the entry to
Bendethera was blocked by fallen trees.

G'day Davo
Thanks for that - will do. Which side are you referring to though - the Araluen side (Merricumbene) has been closed for said reason for many months.
Cheers

The trees that i'm referring to were blocking the entry to
bendethera valley camping area just past the NPWS notice board. Read my reply to Froilan in this post (no. 6). It was very windy in there last week and there was a lot of falling timber. The NPWS website is stating that the park is currently closed.

G'day Again Davo
Thanks for that clarification. After your last post I rang NPWS
Narooma and asked - the person I spoke with indicated a staff member had just been there and all was
well. Perhaps either the web site, or the person I spoke to, are wrong?

There certainly were fires, and you can see where, but, its greened up nicely and
well worth a visit.

Bendethera is a great spot - try the drive around the valley via
Dampier FT, Minuma Ft, Momgamula FT & Merricumbene FT.
Get a copy of the
Batemans Bay State Forest map 1:125 000 - it covers a large area but the track info is fairly accurate.Subaru Forester
size isn't everything !

G'day Again Dave
I'm actually going to be floating between two groups of friends that are in there. Looks like it's going to be a bit of a crew...
I'll be the white Troopie, with alloy rack, B-Bar, Rear Bar and BFG AT's.
Cheers
My name is Dave also

I'm taking a group of about 6 vehicles from the Landrover Club of the ACT down that way on Saturday. Plan to have lunch somewhere in the Bendethra Valley, probably around the old
homestead site. We're coming in from the west and will probably backtrack out the same way.
Narooma NPWS advised me that Dry Creek is now open so Mericumbene Fire Trail can be used to go from Bendethra all the way to the Araluen-Moruya Road. Depending on time I might take them out that way. We are staying on a property out of Araluen for the weekend.
We're normally on UHF Channel 10 for club trips.
Cheers

Froilan,
I travelled to
bendethera last week via
Braidwood and then out to Moruya. I camped for three nights and did the walk up to
Bendethera Caves. I saw one other vehicle the whole time but sadly there was plenty of garbage and broken bottles in some areas left by the previous weekends visitors. The valley is a huge area with plenty of camping space and is unaffected by fire damage.
When I decided to leave, due to the very high winds, the only exit was blocked by a couple of very large fallen trees between the Deua
River crossing and the NPWS notice board. It is highly likely that these trees would have been cleared by the weekend, but it may be an idea to
check first for those who are planning a trip.
The wind was so strong it even blew the dunny over at the
homestead ruins.
