Hi all,
next week I'm setting off on a 2 month trip in a rented hi-top camper. I plan to drive up the coast from Brisbane to Cairns (even further if the weather permits). Then back down maybe in land a bit. I'd love to hear any tips you folks may have or suggestions of places to go & explore.
Thanks & happy new year.

Just done a trip from Hobart to Port Douglas up the Hume,Newell and Leichhardt coming out to the coast at Rocky. Only backtracked on Rocky to Port Douglas and then returned home down East Coast to Sydney then three days from Port Stephens to Melbourne.
Have a look at

might give you some ideas. Would strongly recommend a night or two at Rollingstone Big4. Get a beachfront site!

Hi arcaxiu
My Husband and I did a six week trip from Gosford to Cooktown and back, we found a few wonderful places to stay along the way.
Lucinda is an idyllic spot just east of Ingham, good fishing and crabbing if you are taking a boat. It's just south of Hinchinbrook Island.
Emu Park is another great spot with plenty to see around the Rockhampton,Yeppoon and Great Keppel area. Great caravan park with happy hour every day, walk to town.
Kurramine Beach, Kings reef caravan park, just north of Mission Beach is great without the crowds of Mission Beach, the caravan park has it's own ocean front pub in the corner, so pretty.
Bargara east of Bundaberg is a very pretty spot with the caravan park set on about 14 acres and across the road from the surf beach and an easy walk to town to a pub with the biggest menu I have ever seen! About 15 mins into Bundaberg to see the sights and taste the rum.
Cooktown if you make it will well be worth the extra drive, very historic with beautiful buildings and good fishing.
Also there is a great free camp at Calliope on the river which is near Gladstone.
Wherever you decide to stop I'm sure you will have a great time on the road in this beautiful country of ours, enjoy
Suellen
