Are there many members in Alice Springs?

As a relatively new Territorian I'm looking to meet a few 4wders in the Alice Springs area for some mild off-road entertainment, BBQ's and pub outings.. I'm not in town that often due to working as a tour guide keeping me out of town most of the time but when I am in town I'm looking to either get OUT of town to the nearest waterhole, creek/river, camping/4wding spot, or perhaps pub..

So if you are local why not let me know.

Cheers,
Si

Cheers ModSquad, hopefully they'll make themselves known soon enough - cos it's hard to get to know new people in a new place.

If anyone wants to meet up for a beer, bbq or whatever please feel free to email me (addy on profile page) as I am not always able to access this website but can usually check my email once every couple of days - or you can post here in this thread but the reply may take longer.

Is this something I should be scared of and run back in to the desert to avoid??

Or is this a friendly Hairy?

Cheers Kev & Pesty.

Hmmmm, been thinking about a quick trip out to Hermannsburg to have a look at it, after all it's a place of many stories, some good, some bad, but it's also a start.
At the moment I'm not out in the desert more days than I'm in town because I fractured my wrist - so I'm stuck on tar roads in town basically at the moment (because if I go out of town and have a flat tyre I'd be hard pushed to change it right now).

Hey Kev, if I mentioned beer & BBQs in the bush ya reckon that'd do the job even better? :)

Hairy - you don't know the guy who rolls up the footpaths at night do you? Cos last week I swear he forgot to put out the "CLOSED" sign and I wanted to have a go at him.
I'll look forward to your message - though email is probably the best way to get me at any time.

Effie - thanks - got it now the Old Police Station waterhole, sounds like fun - mind you though, can't do much proper off-roading at the moment due to my busted wrist...

He's a bit of a weapon on a deadly.

It's just the landing that hurts, Hey Hair.

Hahaha, I'm beginning to wonder just how safe it'll be meeting Hairy.. :-)

Actually, as I don't have a bike I'm sure to be safe.

Seems though that Hairy is well known. ;-)

You'll be fine Simon.
It's just a bit of banter between mates.
I'd share my camp fire with Hairy any night of the week,

Don't worry mate, I'm not really worried, more looking forward to it actually cos it sounds like it'll be good fun. :-)
Anyone who can get comments from people all over the country must be good fun - but as said, because I haven't got a bicycle I'm sure I'll be ok.

Anything has got to be better than sitting at home bored with a broken wrist at the moment (well actually I do drive around town etc but can't go too far afield cos if I get a flat tyre I'm screwed with only one arm!)

Ahhh, I want a camp fire again. I want to have this wrist back to working and get back out in to my beloved desert where I have big camp fires and lots of fun (see the pic in my blog titled Photo Comp 2010 which is around the camp fire)

Hi Simon,

Duck out this way when you get a moment, we've got plenty of beer, & in the condition that the roads are currently in, it's a bit of an expedition just getting to us at Mt Dare!

Hey Jeff,

Wow, that is a little bit of a hike. Not sure how I'll cope with a fractured wrist on those roads but it could be a good trip when I'm either almost 100% again or when I'm back doing normal working/living again.

I looked at your profile pic, it looks cool.. do you run the pub there then? Because I'm just thinking of a long weekend type trip - I imagine the pub is the same as found out at Kings Creek and Curtin Springs and so on, part of the greater property and has fuel, beer, shop etc?The

Simon,

My wife & myself look after the pub etc... for Dave & Mel' Cox, it's a great stopping off point for people from Alice after a longish weekend away or for those heading off across the Simpson.

We get up to Alice every couple of months or so for a bit of retail therapy!

Hi Jeff,

Retail therapy sounds like a good thing after being stuck that far out of town.. After all you've got to spend money on something right? :-)

Mt Dare sounds like it could be fun, I've been reading up on it some more and I may just have to plan a trip down... I'll work on it a bit, though it will take a bit of planning to make it all work out right.

Do I need a NP pass etc out there?

Simon,

You only need a permit if you are going down to Dalhousie Springs (highly recommended) or out into the desert, there is also Eringa waterhole which is well worth a visit or head out to Old Andado & have a look at Molly Clarkes place.

Hi Jeff,

It all sounds like a bit of fun. I might be able to plan a trip out that way in a few weeks when my arm is a little better for long distance and rough road driving..
I take it there are plenty of places I can chuck down a swag out there.

I will have to do my bits of research and learn about the places you have mentioned, they all look pretty cool so far but I have to way up the extra costs etc but I will see how it goes (actually, my first mission is to get back to earning money again - which means that my compo claim has to be approved - it bloody well sucks being a casual!)

Oh well.. tell ya what though, I'm bored as hell being at home!
